The brand is working with Michael Jackson's estate to create a limited edition package featuring the singer, according to an executive close to the company. The package coincides with the 25th Anniversary of the "Bad" album, which was released on Aug. 31, 1987. The package will be a 16 oz. can available in convenience stores and grocery stores around Memorial Day, according to Beverage Digest. The can, said to have a blue background with an image of Mr. Jackson dancing, is expected to cost 99 cents. Pepsi declined to comment. Pepsi sponsored the 1988 Bad World Tour. The tour spanned 16 months, including 123 concerts in 15 countries attended by 4.4 million fans. When it concluded, it was the largest grossing tour in history and the tour with the largest audience. The brand's relationship with Mr. Jackson dates back to 1984 and the "New Generation" campaign. Infamously, the singer's hair caught fire during a commercial shoot that was part of that campaign. Freddie Mercury & Michael Jackson There must be more to life than this Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed that a duet featuring Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson will be released as a new Queen record in 2012. May told London's Evening Standard that the song was recorded at Michael Jackson's house in the late 80s. 'Michael used to come and see us when we were on tour in the States. He and Freddie became close friends, close enough to record a couple of tracks together at Michael's house, tracks which have never seen the light of day,' he told the newspaper. He also confirmed that the Jackson estate have approved the release. Queen have been going through old unreleased records of Freddie Mercury and now have enough material to release a new Queen record featuring Freddie Mercury vocals next year. Michael Jackson's children, as well as his mother Katherine Jackson, have just received a payout from the late singer's estate. According to Billboard, Katherine, Paris, Prince and Blanket received a preliminary payment of $30 million from Jackson's estate. It has generated more than $310 million in the two years since his death, which has prompted Katherine to ask for the executors to negotiate the purchase of a new home for her and the children. No word on whether the executors will agree to this, but they've been busy eliminating Michael's numerous debts he had at the time of his death. They were also able to make money off of the This Is It film which helped them pay off his taxes and various bills. A hearing has been set for later this month to decide what will happen next. Teddy Riley talks about producing tracks on Michael Jackson's first posthumous album "Michael"
Michael Jackson's posthumous album "Michael" is released in Britain on Monday (December 13) and like his controversial life, the record seems to not be without criticism. "Michael" is the first album of new Jackson material since his disappointing "Invincible" in 2001, and the first in a 250 million USD deal between Sony and the executors of Jackson's estate to release ten albums of new material through 2017. The album was started by the King of Pop in 2007 but he would not live to finish it. A handful of producers have stepped in to save the album including Tricky Stewart and R&B singer/producer Akon. Another producer, Teddy Riley, said because Jackson recorded songs that were not intended to be the final version, some nifty audio tools such as computer programme Melodyne which changes the pitch, had to be used.
