Ohne vorherige Kriegserklärung marschierte die deutsche Wehrmacht am 1. September 1939 in Polen ein. Der Überfall auf Polen markiert nicht nur den Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs, sondern auch den einer großangelegten, ethnischen Säuberung. Im Zuge derer wurden Tausende Juden und Christen aus ihrer Heimat vertrieben, deportiert und getötet. Sie mussten Platz machen für ein Experiment des Rassenwahns. Im Westen Polens planten die Nazis eine "blonde Provinz", die Ansiedlung Volksdeutscher, deren Nachwuchs zu einer germanischen Herrenrasse heranwachsen sollte. Tausende Polen christlichen und jüdischen Glaubens wurden nach dem deutschen Überfall auf Polen vor 70 Jahren von der deutschen Wehrmacht, der SA und der SS aus ihren Häusern vertrieben, deportiert und umgebracht. Die Nazis planten, im besetzten Polen, in einem Distrikt namens Warthegau, ein Experimentierfeld des Rassenwahns zu installieren. Eine blonde Provinz, so Heinrich Himmler, sollte entstehen, ein Laboratorium zur Züchtung des germanischen Herrenmenschen. Innerhalb weniger Wochen wurden Hunderttausende Polen und Juden zur Vertreibung freigegeben, als Arbeitssklaven missbraucht oder getötet. Es war der Beginn des Holocaust. Die brutal Vertriebenen sollten "Platz schaffen" für die Volksdeutschen, die vor allem aus der sowjetischen Einflusszone - zwischen dem Schwarzen Meer und dem Baltikum - "heimgeholt" wurden.
