Jazz Singer Courtney Fortune Performs and Talks about Her Music
Female jazz singer Courtney Fortune sings convincingly about heartbreak despite her easy smile and outward appearance of youth. "The proof is in her music," as one reviewer wrote. In this video, Fortune — a student at the USC Thornton School of Music — glides through a memorable live version of "I Love the Way You're Breaking My Heart" (from her debut album "Speak Love"), accompanied by Jack Kovacs on acoustic jazz guitar. She also talks about being named one of "Glamour" magazine's Top 10 College Women in her junior year. The "Glamour" award — which counts Martha Stewart among its impressive list of past honorees — has been one of many highlights for Fortune during her time at the USC Thornton School of Music. The pop-jazz crossover singer has toured in Japan and Europe, worked with Grammy-nominated producer Chris Walden, and just started an electro/pop band, New Youth, with USC Gould School of Law student Alex Nahai.
