An elaborate anti-jigger campaign has been rolled out in Uganda, with an ambitious plan of eradicating the parasite in the Country within six months. In Kamuli District, where the anti jigger campaign was launched yesterday, the problem is compounded not only by lack of hygiene, but by myths that pervade the entire Busoga region.

Officials of the Ahadi Trust famed for the anti-jigger campaign in Kenya received an award from the Laico Regency Hotel for their efforts in eradicating jiggers in the country. Speaking during the function, Public Health and Sanitation Minister Beth Mugo called for the mapping out of areas affected by jiggers in order to make the campaign more effective.
