TateShots: John Squire on watercolour

After hanging up his guitar, John Squire of the Stone Roses, went on to reinvent himself as an artist. In anticipation of a new exhibition 'Watercolour' at Tate Britain, we invited him behind the scenes to talk about a favourite watercolour from Tate's Collection by Patrick Heron, and to show us how he uses watercolour in his own work. Music by 'Ashbourne's Strongest Man'.

John Squire - Made of Stone (Live at Leeds University, 31/01/2003)

A live version of a Stone Roses' classic performed by John Squire. Though his vocals might not be to everyone's taste, there's no faulting the guitar, with not one, but two fabulous solos. The picture is John's Pollock-esque painting "Cody Calling" that was used for the cover of the original single.
McShane -- John Leonard & John Squire (1976) -- lyrics in video

This a delightful ballad that I have long liked & had only on tape from a recording I made off the radio. Very recently I found it posted by knibscratch on YT. My vid uses his soundtrack from the LP for which I thank him very much. The lyrics I have diagnosed from the recording & by using the lyrics of "Bold McShane" (which are nearly the same but have an extra stanza & differ a little in many places). The LP (Broken-Down Gentleman) was released in 1976 & apparently was never digitally released. Finbar & Eddie Furey have done a version of McShane that is on cd which uses the Bold McShane lyrics. I much prefer the John Leonard & John Squire version, both musically & in the lyrics. I own no copyright to the music, lyrics or images.

john squire - how do you sleep

john squire - how do you sleep lyrics - I've seen your severed head at a banquet for the dead All dressed up dinner, looked so fine Your shining silver salver so tastefully powdered With the finest military quick lime Now try and picture this, as I gave you a kiss The apple in your mouth slipped in mine The orchestra played the sweetest serenade We laughed as we put away your wine So raise your glasses, here's a toast to wasted lives May all their ghosts come back to haunt you And tell you how they died How do you sleep? How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay? How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away? Does it feel any better now? Does it mean any more when the angel of death comes knock, knocking, And banging at your door? When all the fun was over, I put you on my shoulder took you home, away from it all Shot down and claimed, mounted and framed Tastefully hung up on my wall Are my dreams your nightmares? I hope they all come true Get off your knees, the party's over I'm coming home to you How do you sleep? How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay? How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away? Does it feel any better now? Does it mean any more when the angel of death comes knock, knocking, And banging at your door, at your door? How do you sleep? How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay? How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away? Does it feel any better now? Does it mean ...

John Squire - Time Changes Everything

John Squire - Time Changes Everything From the album: Time Changes Everything Such a low down dirty trick you played me You work your witchcraft so well Straight through my bleeding heart Another martyr to your hypodermic kiss Your needle dont ever seem to miss Time changes everything Why did we have to say goodbye I know why the caged bird sings Time changes Everything Is that a face I saw at the window Did I hear footsteps out in the hall? All the people that we used to know Faces stranded in my mind Faces drawn without lines, Time changes everything Why did we have to say goodbye I know why the caged bird sings Time changes Everything How can the world keep on turning? Well what else is it gonna do? I'm still growing, I'm still learning I'm not the only child Hanging in the frame with you Time changes everything Why did we have to say goodbye I know why the caged bird sings Time changes Everything
Stone Roses - I Am the Resurrection - 12/8/95 - Brixton Academy

UPGRADE - Stone Roses play I Am the Resurrection on 12/8/95 at Brixton Academy in London, England. www.thestoneroses.org I overdubbed the audio from original VHS/DVD track after recording it with a low end limiter to remove the crackled distortion, and made two tracks, one with high eq'd and one with lows eq'd, and rerecorded in stereo to even out. It still sounds muffled, but more tolerable I think. One of my favorite Roses songs. Anybody got a audio burn of this show? Stone Roses tour in 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
