The founder, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist for Iced Earth, Schaffer has spent most of his career as a back-up vocalist, mainly live, though he has had moments to show his very unrefined, baritone vocals. In recent years however, he has shown some impressive singing ability that hopefully will branch out further in the future. In 2008 he started a solo project, the politically, uh...charged Sons of Liberty, for which he supplies all vocals. Turns out he has an interesting Warrel Dane-Chris Jericho sound in his upper register. Not real serious range here, meant as a companion to the Range of Matt Barlow video. 0:00 - Bringing the melody down to a rough F2 in the live version of "Stormrider" 0:07 - And down to E♭2 in the song "Iced Earth" 0:12 - Blaspheming around D2 in the middle of "Damien" (quoting the film Omen III fyi) 0:56 - D2s from the Sons of Liberty opener "Jeckyll Island" 1:08 - Several spoken D2s and some C♯2s from "The Dimension Gauntlet" 1:29 - C♯2s below Tim Owens in the re-recorded version of "The Coming Curse" 1:48 - First sliding down to F2, then to C2, with some nice chanting to E4 in between, from "Tree of Liberty" 2:05 - Solid speaking to B1, from the cover of "God of Thunder" (lot of low growling in this song too) 2:28 - To the "highs" - Easy F♯4s in "Tree of Liberty." Lyrics here make even me want to facepalm. 3:17 - More nice F♯4s from the chorus of "The Cleansing Wind" 3:52 - Quick G4 from "Indentured Servitude" 4:01 - Singing great G♯4s ...
