The origin of the word "Yenayer" (January in Berber) is : - Yen = One (First) in Tamazight (berber) language - Ayer = Month - Yen-Ayer = First Month - Berbers (Amazighs) started counting years 2962 years ago, and the word "Yenayer" means in the tamazight language: First Month. Yenayer's Eve is celebrated every year in Tamazgha countries (North Africa) and by the Amazighs around the world on January the 12th of Gregorian (western) calendar with a special meal (generally with a chicken vegetables and couscous). Different regions of Tamazgha lands have different culinary traditions for celebrating it, but the chicken turns out to be a common food to all tamazgha regions on that day! Some scholars say that it derives from `Aadah (custom or practice) because people are accustomed to celebrating it. Its plural is A`yad. Ibnul-`Arabi said: "It is called Eid because it returns every year with renewed happiness." Ibn `Aabidayn said: Eid days are thus named because Allah renews His bounties in them; and He distributes His blessings to His worshippers. Thus on Eidul-Fitr, He permits them to eat after having been restrained from food; and He requires paying sadaqatul-fitr (the charity of breaking the fast) to the needy. "And on Eidul-Adha, He permits the completion of Hajj (pilgrimage) with the final tawaf (circulating around al-Ka`bah); and He requires offering sacrifices and distributing their meat, etc. "Also, it is customary for people to be joyful, happy, and to rejoicing during the Eid days." When I started putting this video together I went looking for images of joyful people, and for whatever reason I found that the most joyous people were little girls and young women. So, I decided to make it a thematic video featuring them. Yes, I know that little boys and little old men and little old women also are joyous in the Lord. Just bear with me here. Ok guys - so some of you may remember that last month - I asked for some 'Joyful help'. And I got a nice response :) - Those people will see that they have their apperance in my video - now - it isn't the longest of appearances you will see, but it took me an hour just to edit that part alone - to get us all saying 'Joyful' and doing the hearts at the same time - insane! Which leads me to my apology - that this has taken me so long to get up - but with all of my college work on top of me right now - this video has taken me all the more longer to edit. But I wanted to get it right - I wanted to do this foundation justice. It is one close to my own 'Joyful Heart'. And so I wanted to get it as close to perfect in my eyes as I could. It is derived from `Aada (meaning returned), because people return to it periodically.
