Directed by Julian Higgins. Short "Chase Film". Shot on B/W Tri-X Kodak Super 8mm. Transfered to MiniDV at Yale Labs. Los Angeles City College, 2003. 2003 Los Angeles City College Film Screening Selection. Directors notes: This was the first film I shot at LACC in 2003, other than a short camera test before this shoot. The class assignment was simple - to create a "chase" film no longer than 6 minutes. We shot everything, with the exception of the "Victim's Hideout", at the Holiday Inn in Burbank, CA. We also shot there without permission, very guerilla style. As a matter of fact, the scene where the victim steps into the hotel hallway was originally supposed to be a few shots longer, but security escorted us off the floor (which was under construction at the time) and out of the building before I could get everything we needed. Luckily, we talked them our of confiscating the camera and film. The victim's hideout was filmed at Terry Chu's apartment some days later, at midnight, in Hollywood. As with my later project, Boy Soldiers, this was all shot on super 8mm film and viewed, spliced, taped, and cut by hand in a dark editing room deep within the bowels of LACC for many nights. The titles were created in Powerpoint and shot (poorly) straight off of a computer screen. The song is by the band Vast, and is called Touch. I'd always loved this song and finally found a way to use it's haunting melody to tell the story of a man with nothing to lose.
