Julie Andrews "Edelweiss" Live with Symphonic Orchestra

The Sound of Orchestra Concert Japan, August 1993 Great musical and movie. Remember when watched the movie first time at Christmas many years ago. Was cold winter frozen snow crunched under peoples feet on the street fire crackled inside. Free-spirited young Maria was unforgettable cast as she sung with children from market to mountains everywhere. More hours fun long movie like a never ending story ate half chicken during the film. The Sound of Music (film): Music: Richard Rodgers Lyrics: Oscar Hammerstein ll Book: Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Film based on the Broadway musical The Sound of Music. Filmed in Salzburg, Austria and Bavaria in Southern Germany and also at the 20th Century Fox Studios in California. It is sung by Captain Georg Ludwig von Trapp and his family during the concert near the end of Act II as a defiant statement of Austrian patriotism in the face of the pressure put upon him to join the navy of Nazi Germany. They sing a special version of "Do-Re-Mi" at the Festival concert. Then Max brings out the Captain's guitar who sings about the "Edelweiss". Max prevents them from leaving the stage and announces to the audience that as this is their last chance to sing together for a long time, thanks to the honor guard waiting to escort him directly to his new command. He asks for an encore while the judges decide on the prizes, and they sing "So Long, Farewell", leaving ...

Thoroughly Modern Millie - Stumbling (1967) Julie Andrews & Mary Tyler Moore

Julie Andrews & Mary Tyler Moore singing and dancing to the song "Stumbling" in the musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" which came out in 1967. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a 1967 American musical film directed by George Roy Hill and starring Julie Andrews. The screenplay by Richard Morris focuses on a naive young woman who finds herself in the midst of a series of madcap adventures when she sets her sights on marrying her wealthy boss. The soundtrack interpolates new tunes by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn with standard songs from the 1910s and 1920s, including "Baby Face" and "Jazz Baby." For use of the latter, the producers had to acquire the rights from General Mills, which had used the melody with various lyrics to promote Wheaties for more than forty years. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and five Golden Globes. It was also the tenth highest grossing film of 1967. In 2000 it was adapted for a successful stage musical of the same name. A DVD was issued in 2003. Julie Andrews (Dame Julia Elizabeth Andrews, born Oct. 1, 1935) is an English film and stage actress, singer, and author. She is the recipient of Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy, BAFTA, People's Choice Award, Theatre World Award, Screen Actors Guild and Academy Award honors. Andrews is a former child actress and singer who made her Broadway debut in a 1954 production of The Boy Friend, and rose to prominence starring in musicals such as My Fair Lady and Camelot, both of which earned her Tony Award ...

Julie Andrews vs Audrey Hepburn (MUST WATCH)

Part of a Documentary for the making of Mary Poppins. This segment shows Julie Andrews winning the Golden Globe and Academy Award for her performance. She realizes that if Jack Warner selected her to play Eliza Dolittle for My Fair Lady then she wouldn't have been able to do Mary Poppins. Very funny clip because Andrews makes a great crack at Jack Warner for not picking her as she accepts her Golden Globe.

Christopher Plummer & Julie Andrews - Edelweiss (Original Stereo)

"Edelweiss" was composed with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II in 1959 for the musical production of "The Sound Of Music". This would be the final song composed by arguably the greatest songwriting team in Broadway musical history as Oscar Hammerstein would die not long after the film version of this song used in this video was released. There have been many misconceptions about this song leading many to believe that it is an old Austrian folk song or even the Austrian National Anthem and it is neither. This was a totally original song composed by Rodgers & Hammerstein using an Austrian flower (edelweiss) as a symbol of the Austria that existed prior to the Nazi annexation of this country. The song was wonderfully sung by both Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews in the film version of "The Sound Of Music".
