HD - Amtrak Blows 5 K5LA's at Full Blast for 1 Minute for 2012!
FOR THE SECOND TIME!!! MY SECOND YEAR DOING THIS!!! The engines were 456 (Protect Unit), 462, and 464 (Behind 462). The cab cars were 6907 and 6908. You can't really hear the cab cars blowing it, but they did. The coaster set did not blow for this year because the crew was getting mexican food. Thanks 2011, but 2012 takes over.

Part of my compilation video that will be coming up soon. AMTK 45 West was leading a very late Empire Builder #7 (2 hours and 58 minutes late to be exact) out of Edmonds, WA. The engineer absolutely hammered the horn button down for the fun of it and it was a nice sounding one. I think this is one of the best Nathan Airchime K5LA train horn that you will find these days on Amtrak P42DCs. I'll be uploading a compilation video with a whole bunch of shots that I took during the last few months. I was behind uploading due to my college works, so I will be putting them up soon into 1 video. In the mean time, enjoy this preview video.

this is a steam whistle that came from a steam engine, i do not know the model number, he knows but i forgot to ask. running off of compressed air from an empty propane tank. with the steam whistle, you can feel the sound wave as it goes by you John's nathan airchime K5LA, hopefully were upgrading the air hoses for the K5 from 1/4 inch, to 1/2 so we can get all 5 bells sounding off strong and powerful Enjoy :)

My pvc attempt at a Nathan K5LA , tried to make it look and sound like a real train horn. Hope everyone likes it. As an added note, I went to "www.dieselairhorns.com/sounds.html?album=5", and their recording of K5LA-LB5.mp3: K5LA blown on a standard compressor, with some echos, sounds pretty close to the same as mine. 1) Two SD40-2s battle it out as they lead the Longmont Switch out of Longmont on a cold, overcast morning. 2) Returning later in the day, the same local returns with BNSF 1920 leading. After coming back from GWR, it also got a brand new K5LA Horn installed.

Grand Canyon Train K5LA Horn ("The Train"/GCR) at Railroad Crossing
This is a video of a Grand Canyon Railway train departing from Williams, Arizona at Downtown Williams Station. After departing from Williams, AZ, this train heads to its last stop: Grand Canyon Village, Grand Canyon National Park. This GCR train is powered by one EMD F40FH (F40PH, locomotive number 237) and features many historical cars in its consist. The crew and staff on this train are both friendly and courteous. You can see the conductor peaking out the side of the last car on this train. Also be sure to checkout the cowboys from the great Western shootout show that cross the street onto Grand Canyon Railway (Xanterra) property. I like the K5LA horn on this locomotive! It sounds great! The passenger cars on this train are also interesting; with dome cars in its consist. This train left right on time: just listen to the old town clock gonging in the background... Filmed May 6th, 2012. The Grand Canyon is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world... :)

I also did a remake of this video and it is in HD! I have been getting lots of questions on where I got these horns from, how much I paid for these horns... Q: Where did you get these horns from? A; I got them from someone who I used to work with up in Long Island NY who used to work for a railroad company. back in 1997. Q: How much did you pay for the horns? A: I dropped $250.00 USD for the horns and about a total of $500.00 USD for all the other accessories to make the horn work. Q: What did the K5LA come off of? A: I am not totally sure on what locomotive exactly but from what I was told by the person who sold me the horns, it came off of a retired F3 diesel locomotive used by the railroad company he used to work for. Q: Is it legal? A: In the state that I live in, yes... This state requires that any vehicle registered in this state must have some sort of sound emitting device to warn of on coming danger. It does not matter on how that sound emitting device works or what it sounds like or what it looks like either. I am aware that there are areas on where these horns are not legal to be used on vehicles. I would check with your state/city/town/local laws about owning such air horn.
