Cleaned Up 1941 German Mauser K98

this is my 1941 Gustloff Werke German Mauser K98 i bought from big 5 sporting goods. I just finished re-finishing the wood stock and cleaning the metal parts. all the metal parts were in way better, cleaner shape, than my 1925 mosin nagant and required very little cleaning. the stock however looked like it saw some real action and needed some love. i soaked the stock down with warm water and crud cutter and scrubbed it with a scotch brite pad. I then sanded the stock down to remove any old coatings remaining. I pre-stained the stock with minwax pre-stain, then i stained it with a minwax dark oil based stain, and finished it up with about 5 coats of minwax wipe on poly. i sanded with fine steel wool inbetween coats and on the final coat to give it a shiny but flat, more original, look unlike my super high gloss mosin nagant. time to fire it, next weekend, 2/26/2011

K98 8mm Mauser

Trying my "Soviet Captured" 8MM Mauser. Had an expert drill & tap/mount it. I'd be careful of these guns as when I got it the barrel became loose. He screwed it back with the right headspace etc. Groups better than what I was doing here. Great gun, will land me a deer next season.!

ERMA 22 LR Conversion for Mauser k98 - Show and Tell

Just thought I'd share some info and video of the ERMA .22 LR conversion kit and 1944 German Mauser k98 that I've had for a couple of years before I go trade it in on a few different guns. It was given to me by my mum's husband, who got it from his father-in-law, who brought it over here from his tour in Europe during WWII. As mentioned, if I had the original case and extra magazine, the conversion alone would be worth a chunk o' change, and if I had the original bolt, trigger guard, and base plate/spring for the Mauser, that also would be worth something. However, as-is, I have two semi-complete deals that are only valued at $450 tops. I've put 200 rounds through it, and it shoots straight, but the 5-round magazine kinda sucks and it tends to not want to feed the first round properly without a bit of help to guide it in. Never been a collector type and would rather have something I can actually shoot, so I'm trading it in on a Mosin-Nagant and a couple of other cheap guns. Don't mind the slurring speech and rambling talk - it was pretty late at night. UPDATE: I DO NOT HAVE THIS RIFLE/KIT ANYMORE. I sold it for a pretty fair price and picked up four other guns, which really got the ball rolling on my gun collection.

Yogoslavian Mauser bayonet fits K98

This is a Yugoslavian bayonet package I bought from Colorado Gun sales. Check it at cogunsales.com. It cost me after shipping almost $50. They dick you on shipping big time. Blade length is 10 inches, overall 16. Good bluing, only wear is on the blade from going in and out of sheath.

Fritz's Wax K98 Mauser metal application

Applying Fritz's Wax to the rusted and pitted barrel of a K98 Mauser gunsmith special. History, K98 gunsmith special. K98 buried in ground for some years. barrel and action pitted, barrel inside and out cached with dirt. Rust and dirt on barrel....stock and associated parts very dry, brittle in some places. 90% salvageable with Fritz's moisturizing and protective wax. Barrel plugged (see dirt upper left quadrant on black mat).

Side by side, a WWII Mauser K98 made in 1943 and a Springfield Arms M1 Garand. These two elegant rifles came face to face when the US invaded Europe in 1944.

sorry for not uploading a vid for so long but yeah.. I also forgot to mention that I needed to make another safety lever. I spent quite some time working on the reliability of this rifle and just making sure that it's relativly safe when i'll fire this.

Mauser K98 at 300 and 600yds

A 1941 8mm WW2 mauser being used at 300 and 600yds with czech surplus ammunition, given the age of the ammunition and the standard military ammunition is manufactured to the rifle was amazing, it gave consistent accurate fire and achieved very small groups given what it was using. With handloads and a scope the Mauser is capable of very accurate fire and with the 8mm catridge is useful for ranges up to 1000yds and for hunting most game. However the rifle has downsides such as the long bolt pull and the cock on open action making the rifle very slow to reload and awkward in comparison to smoother actions.
