He has trained extensively with Cesar Gracie, and is a member of the "scrap pack" which includes fellow Cesar Gracie students Dave Terrell, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez. Since his last loss to Akira Kikuchi he has had 15 consecutive wins in 5 years. Shields is currently the #3 ranked middleweight in the world in the USA Today/SBN consensus Top 25 poll. Shields is also currently the #7 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world by Sherdog. He describes his style as American Jiu jitsu. Versus Martin Kampmann Frederiksen (born April 17, 1982) is a Danish mixed martial artist who is currently fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada, US and trains at the Xtreme Couture gym.
