Kander & Ebb's "The Visit" Sings Again, With Chita Rivera and John Cullum

www.playbill.com In 2001 she visited Chicago. In 2003 she visited Arlington, VA. And on Nov. 30, 2011, Chita Rivera's Claire Zachanassian will finally visit New York City, when John Kander, Fred Ebb and Terrence McNally's musical "The Visit" is performed in concert at Broadway's Ambassador Theatre, as a benefit for The Vineyard Theatre and The Actors Fund. Playbill caught up with Rivera, co-star John Cullum, the writers, choreographer Ann Reinking and the concert cast at a rehearsal. They share a few songs and talk about why the time is right for the Friedrich Durrenmatt-inspired show from the songwriting team that gave the world "Cabaret" and "Chicago."

Nadav Kander in collaboration with the Royal College of Art, London, 2009

Constant Stream 2009 Exhibitions. A touring group show in numerous Chinese cities presented by the Royal College of Art, London. Featuring 'Yangtze, The Long River' by Nadav Kander. This is both poem, travel journal and odyssey: we witness the journey of one of the world's leading photographers from mouth to source at a time of tumultuous change. He draws us into a landscape highly charged with meaning it is both distant and present, monumental and intimate. They are just pictures, but pictures that cant be taken again. The Yangtze River, which forms the premise to this body of work, is the main artery that flows 4100 miles (6500km) across China, travelling from its furthest westerly point in Qinghai Providence to Shanghai in the East. In this installation, Nadav invites the visitors to reflect with him on his journey. He chooses to use the Yangtze River as a premise to create work looking at wider issues about China and its people. The River plays such an important part in the life of the Chinese, both spiritually and physically. All Chinese people have more than a sparse knowledge of this great waterway, the third longest in the world, and even when living thousands of miles away their faces light up at its mention and it is discussed with a reverence. It is much more than a waterway. It is history, folklore and linked to Chinas Soul. It runs in the blood of the people. The river is a metaphor for China constant change. Nadav was responding to a country that feels at ...

All That Jazz (Chicago) John Kander/Ebb/Shaw SXU Women's Ensemble

Performed by the Saint Xavier University Women's Ensemble, Carolyn Brady Riley, director, and Monica Kropidlowski, accompanist, the Bill Condon and Bob Fosse stage version of "Chicago" inspired the 2002 film of the same name and won 6 Oscars. It starred Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, and John C. Reilly to name a few. It was said to be one of the best selling movie-musicals of all time. Murderesses Velma Kelly (a chanteuse and tease who killed her husband and sister after finding them in bed together) and Roxie Hart (who killed her boyfriend when she discovered he wasn't going to make her a star) find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago.

MAYBE THIS TIME [© by John Kander/Fred Ebb] | sung by André Berlin [ΛB►]

Honors for this video (3) #89 - Most Discussed (Today)) - Germany #14 - Most Discussed (Today)) - Music - Germany #49 - Top Rated (Today)) - Music - Germany "Maybe this time I´ll be lucky, maybe this time he´ll stay...". I was thinking exclusively on my recurring dream to move to Andalucia, when I sang this song. Since months we are imaging and planning to go there and start a new chapter. So while I was singing, I was only thinking of that. I´ve never planned anything in my life. Things were always being offered to me. And I said yes or no. But this time I don´t want to wait for an offer. Maybe this time I win. I took the words literally, while singing.... Hope you like it. Kander and Ebb were a highly successful songwriting team consisting of composer John Kander (born 1927) and lyricist Fred Ebb (1928 - 2004). Known primarily for their stage musicals, Kander and Ebb also scored several movies including their most famous song, the theme song from Martin Scorsese's "New York, New York." Recorded by many artists, "New York, New York" became a signature song for Frank Sinatra. The team also became associated with two actresses, Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera, for whom they wrote a considerable amount of material for the stage, concerts and television.

It's 11:00 on stage in Liza Minnelli's debut Broadway show, for which she won the Tony, "Flora the Red Menace", by Kander and Ebb. This is a very cleaned up audience tape, and as you can hear she loves audiences, which is why she's a star. The photo is the typical staged shot with producer Hal Prince, George Abbott, Kander and Ebb, co-star Bob Dishy and Liza looking about 14 in her school uniform. Missing only the braces. The source was very heavy with bass and noise.

Renée Fleming live,Warren Jones, 1994 July 14, 1861 Camp Clark, Washington "My very dear Sarah: The indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days—perhaps tomorrow. Lest I should not be able to write again, I feel impelled to write a few lines that may fall under your eye when I shall be no more . . . I have no misgivings about, or lack of confidence in the cause in which I am engaged, and my courage does not halt or falter. I know how strongly American Civilization now leans on the triumph of the Government and how great a debt we owe to those who went before us through the blood and sufferings of the Revolution. And I am willing—perfectly willing—to lay down all my joys in this life, to help maintain this Government, and to pay that debt . . . Sarah my love for you is deathless, it seems to bind me with mighty cables that nothing but Omnipotence could break; and yet my love of Country comes over me like a strong wind and bears me unresistibly on with all these chains to the battle field. The memories of the blissful moments I have spent with you come creeping over me, and I feel most gratified to God and to you that I have enjoyed them for so long. And hard it is for me to give them up and burn to ashes the hopes of future years, when, God willing, we might still have lived and loved together, and seen our sons grown up to honorable manhood, around us. I have, I know, but few and small claims upon Divine Providence, but something whispers to me—perhaps it ...
