Powerful, dynamic and forward-looking, Kia GT concept car signals the company's distinctive new design direction. This four-door sports sedan with a rear-wheel drive layout - a Kia first - marries sleek and muscular proportions with a sophisticated and elegant four-seater cockpit. Although work on the Kia GT concept first started in November 2010, the idea of a powerful rear-wheel drive Kia saloon had been percolating in the minds of Kia's European designers for some time. "This concept allows us to explore exciting new design directions, as using a rear-drive layout creates very different proportions compared to a front-wheel drive car," says Peter Schreyer, Kia's Chief Design Officer. "The classic front-engined, rear-wheel drive layout of a performance saloon has distinct appeal not just for the domestic Korean audience, but also for the European and American markets." "At the onset of this project," adds Gregory Guillaume, Kia's European Design Chief, "the design team was inspired by the spirit of iconic 1970s GT cars: sumptuous and elegant vehicles capable of whisking passengers from Paris to the South of France in effortless style and at high speed. We wanted to create something similarly graceful, athletic and confident, but not aggressive or overbearing." 2011 Kia GT Concept
A new concept from Kia. -Info- At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show Kia will unveil the GT Concept, a modern sedan that could preview the company's next generation flagship. Previewed in August with a set of renderings, the Kia GT Concept has four-door coupé proportions, with a sporty stance and an elongated tail. The front end is characterized by the side air intakes that remind of the Citroën GT Concept and by a new interpretation of the brad's grille, which is positioned upwards and contributes to the premium feel. In the side view, the clean general lines are combined with a number of small concept-like details, such as the side cameras, the thin door handles and the carbon side blades and wheel covers. The four-door coupe silhouette is underlined by a polished trim that runs from the A-pillar to the tail. At the rear, the GT showcases its sporty character, with the horizontal element of the tail lamps and a large carbon fiber diffuser which integrates the exhaust pipes. The interior has essential lines, with a driver-oriented cockpit and four individual bucket seats. The atmosphere of the cabin is dominated by the beige-brown color scheme and by the leather and metal trims, which blend influences from the world of motorsports and from modern interior furniture.

2011 Kia GT Concept Teasers
Teasers of a new concept from Kia. -Info- Kia is (somewhat) teasing a new four-door, four-seat, sports sedan concept the Korean automaker will debut at the Frankfurt motor show next month. The images publishes here show plenty, though, and what we see is an Audi A7-esque four-door sport coupe with some bold, sometimes boxy lines. Dare we say the silhouette resembles the Lamborghini Estoque concept? In line with previous reports, Kia says the concept is a rear-wheel drive sedan that takes the automaker into a "new chapter" in its history but it's tough to see this car going to production anytime soon. Still, we await this intriguing concept's full details.
