The Buck Vantage folding knives rock. They are high value, handsome, low profile, hard cutting designs that make stellar EDC choices. The Vantage also offers the buyer several options in steel and handle material: Vantage Select Large and Small with 420HC and sculpted Zytel scales; the Vantage Pro with S30V and sculpted G10 scales (good looking!); the Vantage Avid with 13C26 Sandvik® and again G10 scales. Large size Vantages have 3 1/4" (8.3 cm) blades; the Small Vantage 2 5/8" (6.7 cm) length. The looks on these knives are striking and yet provide solid ergonomics. The sculpted Zytel handles don't provide a lot of traction but are good looking, light, and thin. The CNC contoured G10 scales on the Pro model add even better looks (the Avid features CNC contoured Charcoal Dymondwood® scales). The blade shape is superb and reminiscent of the uber-expensive Sebenza to me. It possesses a near-perfect form for all kinds of everyday cutting tasks with nice curvature (belly), sweep, swedge, polished flats, and a strong tip. It is hollow ground. Blade finishes are good with the S30V version showing a smoother satin finish with less pronounced striations. Any of the three steels offered should be excellent in role as well and I have been happy with the performance of my other Buck 420HC knives. Many will prefer the S30V Vantage Pro model for just a few more dollars/euros; it is an amazing value at around $40 (price, models all subject to change without updates here). The Vantage <b>...</b>

I had to shoot on the go and try to keep up with him. As much of a challenge the shooting wasI think this made the footage more dynamic than it would have been with a lot of set up time. Kicking your EDC into "Overdrive," the Kershaw OD-1 and OD-2 knives are ultra-fast daily carry knives. These are Lee Williams-designed blades that feature an innovative, disappearing actuation stud for deployment. It's fast, reliable, and fun. The larger OD-1 weighs 3.4 oz and has a 2 15/16" Sandvik 14C28N elegant drop point blade, somewhat reminiscent of the Kershaw Leek series but with thankfully more belly for utility tasks. The 14C28N is a good steel choice that takes a fine edge and sharpens easily. In some aggressive cardboard cutting and stabbing tests, I found the 14C28N steel to perform well, losing sharpness after about 15 long cuts but it sharpened easily thereafter. I did note some small rust spots developing on this OD1 blade in low moisture environments which puts me to wonder about its overall rust resistance. Keep it wiped down. The blade shape features a sharp tip (yes!), some belly, and has well executed hollow grinding that makes it an excellent slicer and emergency "surgical tool." The OD-1 framelock is technical looking and has a lockbar stabilzer to prevent your idiot friends from tweaking it out too far when the fondle the knife. When subject to spine whack tests, the OD-1 framelock did release and the knife developed looseness (but was restored to factory tightness thereafter). For a tactical blade this would be the kiss of death but for the EDC role this knife is intended for, it's not a showstopper. But it's an interesting data point to show that <b>...</b>
