Artysta urodził się 1951 roku w Mulawiczach koło Białegostoku. W latach 1970-78 studiował na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Warszawskiej. Od 1981 mieszka i pracuje w Kolonii. Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski studiował w latach 1868-71 w warszawskiej Klasie Rysunkowej u Rafała Hadziewicza i Wojciecha Gersona, następnie krótko w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Dreźnie a latach 1872-73 w Monachium, gdzie osiadł na stałe. Początkowo uczył się w pracowni Alexandra Wagnera, potem przeniósł się do atelier Józefa Brandta. Trzymał się polskiej kolonii, uczestniczył w jej poczynaniach, stale obsyłał wystawy krajowe. Znajdował klientelę wśród ziemiaństwa i plutokracji. Podejmował tematykę kresową ze szczególnie ulubionymi przez Niemców scenami z polowań i napadów wilków, obrazami ilustrującymi życie polskiej prowincji, jarmarki i sceny batalistyczne.
