I made this when I was 16 in school, turned out pretty good :D The acrylic bars light up too, though not shown in the video, sorry. No schematics available. It was built in 24 work-hours under a three day period, with the exception from the electrical components which I made in advance to spare the little time I had in the workshop. ***No schematics/plans available***

I installed this light show at a friends home in Fountain Valley, CA. It's dedicated to the memory of Larry Stewart who passed away on May 15th, 2011. Larry and his wife always wanted to do something big for Christmas, this is their dream come to fruition, I was glad to assist in making this happen. This setup consists of 56100 LEDs (220 StellaGreen strings controlled by 15 StellaScapes E16-II controllers), programmed to dance to the music via MADRIX Ultimate running on a custom built Core i5-760 @ 2.8GHz w/ 8GB of RAM. The snowflakes, arches, mini trees, mega tree, & star topper were all made by me. Several custom effects were programmed in MADRIX. All networking, installation, research, programming, & all nighters performed by me (Damion) EDIT, the title says 54020 LEDs, this error was brought to my attention by Fabian Gordon, a real good guy in the lighting scene. I arrived at 54020 during one of many 48+ work days and made a mistake. It's really 56100 LEDs. Too late to change the video now though :P I'd like to thank Jan for giving me the opportunity & trust to tackle this project. John Chapman of Engineering Solutions Inc. for his guidance & help as well as Andrew Frazer. Last but certainly not least,my wife for sticking by my side throughout this journey in "lightland"! Since people keep asking, or assuming this setup draws a lot power; The whole system draws a maximum of 24 Amps, it runs on 120v AC. So that equals 2880 watts. This is a hard drive clock I built from a 3.5" hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing the various colors it can produce an analog clock display as well as other patterns. I got the idea from this page: alan-parekh.com And here is my page with more details: www.ian.org .

It's a ball of LEDs that spin, real fast. *** I'm sorry that the music as been changed, but I was having copyright problems and the video was blocked in Germany. Old audio was DJ Tiesto - Adagio for strings. *** Unlike it's predecessor this one has three axes. It was very challenging to build, with a total of 9 slip-contacts, not including the motors. I made it from scrap I had laying around and it took about a week to build. I use standard DC-motors controlled with pulse width modulation, the LEDs are controlled with a modified bike light with adjustable frequency. I'm very sorry about the quality, my camera can't keep up and it makes a lot of flicker that isn't really there, and the LEDs oversaturate the image. 5mm or 10mm LEDs will work just fine for most projects, but if you really want to light up a room, consider using some of the high-power variety. With forward currents up to a full amp, you'll need a way to dissipate heat - but the results are very much worth the extra effort.

I put together a shufflebot costume for halloween this year (LMFAO robot head guy)... I wanted to add to the costume since I'd be out and about and doing alot of shuffling - what better way than some LED shoes that light up when I step/dance. This was my take on this. There are a bunch of ways to do it I'm sure, but this cost me about $11 total, and worked (still works) really well. I'll add a parts list and some written instructions to this when I get a chance. Note: I chose to put my battery on the tongue b/c that's the only place it would fit. If you have shoes you want to cut up or maybe they have a big tongue near the top flap... you might be able to hide the wires better. Since this was for halloween, i didn't need to hide the wires. It's all your preference. Good luck! ******************************************** Supplies/Parts 1. Shoes - pick whatever, but make sure that the sides of the soles are flat enough and wide enough to apply the LED material to. The LED strips are just under .5" wide. 2. Battery with connector - you can get these online or at Fry's or Radio Shack or any electronics place 3. LED's - I like the RGB LEDs. You need to get the kind that are adhesive backed and flexible. I got mine from this site. www.usledsupply.com If you want to use one color LED's that's fine too.. just poke around on the site. I would measure my shoe to see how much LED material you need. I only went around the heel, but you could go around the entire shoe if you wanted ...

This is my LED project which I thought I'd try running Conway's 'Game of Life' on. It's a game which uses a set of simple rules to create complex patterns. Each LED represents a cell which can be living (on) or dead (off). Every cell interacts with its surrounding eight neighbours as follows: 1. Any live cell with fewer than two live neighbours dies, as if caused by underpopulation. 2. Any live cell with more than three live neighbours dies, as if by overcrowding. 3. Any live cell with two or three live neighbours lives on to the next generation. 4. Any dead cell with exactly three live neighbours becomes a live cell. My version picks a random speed and LED colour. It also restarts after a set time, as often the game will reach an equilibrium and the patterns stop. I guess I should really be cleverer about this and detect when the patterns stop and then introduce new cells. In the multi colour version the cells change colour depending on how old they are - red being the youngest and white being are the oldest. There are actually 7 colours but it's hard to see them all in the video. The box itself uses 4 LED Matrices from Sparkfun driven by an Arduino.

Do-it-yourself LED matrix If you need a small LED matrix of a non-standard size or shape you can make one on your own by using a development board, LEDs, and current-limiting elements. So let's make a 10x10 matrix with ultraviolet LEDs. In this way we'll get a money authenticity detector. We'll use ECI development board by Velleman, 100 LEDs, and 100 resistors. You may ask why we need so many resistors. We'll be using a 5V power supply so we'll need resistors with 470 Ohms so as to set current of 20 milliamperes through each LED.We'll follow a way of least resistance and just connect all LEDs in parallel. However, in such connection it is necessary that each LED has its own current-limiting resistor. So first we solder LEDs onto the board. To make it more convenient we'll fix each line of LEDs with a scotch tape. Then we can flip the board over and quickly solder all LEDs in one go.First we place LEDs. To make sure everything is correct use a longer positive lead. Unfortunately the layout of this development board does not allow setting 10 LEDs into one row. So we'll have to do with nine. Then we fix them with the scotch tape. Now that our LEDs are placed we fix each row with the scotch tape. We can flip the board over and start soldering. LED leads can be nipped off so that they do not get in the way. So we snap off the last leads and start soldering the resistors. After that we solder the resistors by previously fixing them with the scotch tape. Finally we make the missing ...
