Every so often, internet news aggregator sites run a story about a research group that put an LED into a contact lens, then inserted it into a rabbit's eye. I figured that I would try the same thing, but put the lens into my own eye. I accomplished this by laminating a coil of wire and an 0402 surface-mount LED between two ordinary soft contact lenses. I was hoping the lenses would stick to each other, but they did not, so I ended up fixing the edges together by pinching the plastic together with hot tweezers. This held well enough to capture a minute of video with the LED illuminated in my eye. For video purposes, I mounted the LED facing outward. An actual VR/AR display would have the LED facing inward. I powered the LED by using a very primitive spark-gap transmitter built from a mechanical relay to send RF energy into a larger coil held near my eye. The standard GoPro case with the infamous curve lens can be used to obtain sharp images underwater by adjusting lens position little forward. The mod was not too hard to do with the help from the video instructions on Ragecam's channel. Nice thing about this mod is that you do not have to buy a flat lens, no cost at all. The bad side is that it will not focus above water, but that may be ideal for underwater hunters who do not want to reveal their dive spots. I have two Pursuit flat lenses each made with glass and plastic for my Hero2s. They work great. Especially they do not add any bulk to GoPro cases. The only issue is that they both get vignetting at 170FOV. I post-process and remove any vignetting, but I lose some detail around corners by doing so. I cannot afford a new flat lens like Blurfix, so I decided to use the original curved lens and adjust the focus position for underwater. Before I mod my Hero2, I wanted to test with my old Hero1 which has already been modified with an aftermarket lens from Rangecam. My original lens on Hero1 was badly scratched, so I had to get this lens. I tested several times in my bathtub to find the optimal focus position underwater. I had to turn the lens 100 degree counterclockwise. As I expected, after this mod, my GoPro did not focus on land. It looked like it was stuck in super macro mode. This modification perfectly works with GoPro's original lens as well. There is no need to get this Ragecam Lens that I have. Underwater hunters <b>...</b>
