Wilmot does so, but ends up getting into trouble as he romances the lead actress (Samantha Morton), along with several other women, played by Francesca Annis and Rosamund Pike. Deafheaven -Libertine Dissolves
Black metal is a music of destruction, but not as an end in itself. Just as devastating fires are necessary to maintain the evolution of a forest, the outsized musical gestures and inflammatory rhetoric of black metal are aimed at razing the world so that we may begin anew. Strange, then, that it's only been in the last five years or so that we've seen black metal sprouting so many new branches. It's a sad irony that a music so opposed to orthodoxy should be so concerned with notions of purity. San Francisco's Deafheaven are one of a growing legion of young American black metal bands (also including Krallice, Velnias and Liturgy) whose music captures that duality perfectly. There's plenty of violence in the outpouring of blastbeats and guitars on their self-titled demo (briefly introduced by Vince here), but the violence feels transformative, baptismal, even comforting. Deafheaven's arcing guitar harmonies lead to conventionally beautiful places; they even fly directly into the sun for the major key flashes of "Daedalus." It says a lot that the acoustic instrumental "Bedrooms" feels totally at home among the beautiful carnage that surrounds it. It's just as emotionally complete as the louder tracks. While Deafheaven's music shares surface characteristics with the classic black metal sound, this demo is so distanced from Mayhem and Immortal as to be another kind of music entirely. But if you look closely and keep your ears open, you'll find some of the electronic gems hidden under the surface. Dutch producer Mark Otten is responsible for quite a few. His 'Mushroom Therapy' hit the surface around 2003 and now ranges on the list of today's trance classics. Though they all share that same distinctive, well thought-out sound, there's another thing that binds this man's productions. 'So Serene' and 'Tranquility', as well as 'Crossroads' and 'The Distance' under his Rio Addicts moniker, all productions have at least a year between the date of release. If anyone takes the saying 'quality over quantity' at heart, it's Mark Otten. And that's exactly what makes his tracks stand out. 'Libertine' embarks a new sound, riding a deep yet uplifting sound. It has the typical drums you'd expect to hear in a quality Mark Otten tune, but a pace much higher than his previous productions. 'Libertine' hits in with a few big surprises, from highly sequenced vocals to phased out distortive beats, mixing the synthy type of trance with a 2011-fit energetic boost. It already conquered the hearts of Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance 2011 listeners, and it's about to hit yours. The Libertines - The Good Old Days (Acoustic) HQ
The Good Old Days is track #11 on The Libertines debut album, Up the Bracket, and is credited to Doherty and Barat. The track is a fan favourite, often being requested and played at gigs by The Libertines and, more rarely, Doherty solo. Performed live, "Good Old Days" includes a longer verse section with additional lyrics (transcribed in the Up the Bracket album inlay but not heard in the studio recording). The Libertines recorded a copy of The Good Old Days during the Babyshambles Sessions in May 2003, in which Doherty whispered "get a tattoo", as an answer to Barat's line "a list of things we said we'd do tomorrow". Apparently this was the reason that both Doherty and Barat had "libertine" tattooed on their arms (which is seen on the cover art for their second album, The Libertines). As well as these two versions, the track has also been recorded by Barat solo (for his Oui FM, and Mexican sessions).
