HMS Pinafore: When I was a lad & Ruler of the Queen's Navee
This short extract was from the The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of North Louisiana's 1999 production of HMS Pinafore, directed by John Matthews. Superb local baritone Richard King, as The Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Porter, KCB, First Lord of the Admiralty, informs the assembled party how he came to be "Ruler of the Queen's Navee." This was recorded on a modest Sony camcorder with on-board microphone. The performance was, of course, not amplified in any way - true G & S. John Matthews is "old school" "If you can't be heard at the back of the auditorium, you have no business being on stage!"

When I Was A Lad
On April 5 and 6, 2008, Friends Of the Performing Arts in Concord (FOPAC), 51 Walden Street, Concord, Massachusetts, presented two concert performances of Gilbert and Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore". The performances were a collaboration of The Concord Band, The Concord Orchestra, and The Concord Players, to raise funds to support the operation of The Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden. This video excerpt from the show includes the songs "I Am The Monarch Of The Sea" and "When I Was A Lad", performed by John Small, who played Sir Joseph Porter.
