4-22-11 Highway 70 closed This is some of the video I recorded while sitting in traffic for a couple hours at Hwy 70 and the Rock Road,.Good friday tornado From noaa.gov: Storm Data and Unusual Weather Phenomena - April 2011 During the evening of Friday April 22nd, an intense supercell thunderstorm produced a long-track tornado which tore a path of destruction from west to east across the St. Louis Metropolitan Area, from St. Louis County Missouri eastward across the Mississippi River into Madison County Illinois. The tornado reached a maximum intensity of EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale as it tracked through the community of Bridgeton, just west of Lambert St. Louis International Airport, in St. Louis County. The total path length was 21.3 miles, with a width of up to half a mile. The tornado initially touched down along the northern edge of Creve Coeur Lake at approximately 759 pm. It tracked nearly due east at about 40 mph, and intensified as it entered Maryland Heights. There it produced up to EF3 damage to many homes and businesses with a damage swath of 200 to 400 yards wide. Damage continued eastward in an unbroken track, crossing I-270 about 1 mile south of I-70. The tornado reached peak intensity of EF4 as it devastated the community of Bridgeton along Old St. Charles Road. From there the tornado paralleled Interstate 70 through the community of St. Ann, and then took aim directly on Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. This video was shot 2 miles west of Lambert Airport on I-70. We just caught the outer edge of the tornado. We had been chasing this storm since it first began south of Columbia, MO. It finally became Tornadic before reaching the suburbs of St. Louis. We were just catching the western edge of the tornado as it moves east. Debris flying everywhere, powerlines went down ahead of us, transformers blowing up, and semis overturned. Excuse the language please.

[Featuring Streetcar1743] Terminal 1 (formerly called the Main Terminal) is the original terminal at Lambert. This famous dome area that serves as ticketing was constructed in the 50's, and has been featured in many movies (the most famous being "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" with Steve Martin). This terminal was the main hub for now-defunct TWA. Since TWA went bankrupt in 2001, traffic at the airport has been roughly cut in half. Many gates were been boarded up, and the facility largely fell into poor condition. A tornado hit this terminal early this year, causing extensive damage. Now, a massive renovation is in progress, which with any luck may finally give Lambert a fresh start and attract the attention of a new airline to bring it back to major hub status. As of now, Lambert is one of the most underused airports in the world. Only 2 of it's 3 runways are in regular use (the 3rd is only used a handful of times each day), and two entire concourses with a combined total of over 30 gates have been closed off.
