A new EU5 2.2-litre diesel engine replaces the EU4 2.4-litre diesel for 2011, bringing new levels of performance and refinement to the Defender for 2012. The smaller capacity engine delivers the same power, torque and economy as its outgoing sister but makes this the cleanest Land Rover Defender yet produced. In EU5 markets, the new engine comes with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to ensure the lowest possible levels of regulated emissions. Following a major upgrade in 2007 which included a new facia and six-speed manual transmission, the Defender's specification has been further improved for 2012. In addition to the existing 'S' and 'SE' trim levels, there are five new option packs, new alloy wheels, ventilated discs on all variants and a number of detail improvements to the interior. Three speed-limiting options will also be offered to fleet users wanting to gain more effective control of fuel costs. The Defender can trace its roots back to 1948 and during that period Land Rovers have earned a reputation as the most rugged and versatile off-road vehicles in the world. Since 2002, the Defender has consistently sold an average of 25000 units a year worldwide. Retail and utility customers, armed forces and NGOs in over 100 countries believe that the Defender's off-road ability, durability and towing capability are still head and shoulders above the competition. Now any driver of an early defender will know, that the dash lighting isn't quite up to scratch. The dim green lighting of the instruments causes eye strain at the best of times, so I'm upgrading my dash lighting with LED's (Light Emitting Diode) and putting those dim nights behind me. 5th Wheel Land Rover Defender - Off Road with 45ft Caravan
The end of an epic 3 week journey. The caravan is a 45ft 5th wheel trailer, made in the US, being pulled by a 1984 Land Rover Defender. The caravan was arrested and put in custody by the Police... it is a long story and may one day end up on youtube... It was damaged when we got it back... but this video is about the last 100ft of the journey. Positioning the caravan took nearly all day and there was at least 9 of us. The Land Rover is a very special one, built by Land Rover and registered to them for the early part of its life. The chassis is specially strengthened for the full size 5th wheel, it has vacuum brakes for the trailer and is having air brakes fitted. Soon to be featured in Land Rover World magazine. Setup guide @ www.pakistanrc.com . This is an update video of what has been accomplished during my work on this project. I have been able to mount the hard plastic body I receoved from ebay onto my axial SCX10 TR chassis using magnets, glue, screws etc. I am using a Land Rover TD5 sound unit to simulate the TD5 engine sound. I am also using maxamps 7.4v 2S 5250 LiPo to power the kit. I use 12v nicd AA batteries to power the 2W speaker hosted inside a baffle box ;)

My tribute to the Land Rover. Celebrating 60 years in 2008, they have given us so much, and will continue to give loyal service to future generations. WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY This is my 1993 Land Rover Defender 200tdi 110 station wagon. A beautiful truck who has taken me places I never thought I would have ventured. It is mostly a standard vehicle, but i've added a few things to make her a great offroader, perfect for an adventure. The vehicle's kit includes - a bullbar, a safari snorkel, a set of Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks, a Long Ranger 120L fuel tank, a set of Goodyear 265/75/R16's, a Bearmach rear wheel carrier, rear bumperettes, a towbar, a set of IPF driving lights, a UHF radio, MP3 CD player, and a 12v solar panel for battery charging. Cape York Nolans Brook Last year did a trip to Cape York in a Defender, fully worked machine, International HS 2.8L TGV Diesel Engine (awesome) the tracks heading up to the cape at that time were so bad that brand new radiator lines were rubbing through other lines that wernt even near each other at stand still, new exhaust system cracked through, globes in head lights etc, BROKE!!, we did alot of night driving and the saving grace was 1 HID spot light that held on. We drowned the Defender in Nolans creek crossings, with the engine running under water for about 10mins as we were trying to get the winch running to winch our selves out....( never really had to use the thing) the water was up half way up the speedo in the defender... (we were on our own after over taking everyone that couldnt make one of the crossings "CHICKENS" ). Lost all the computers, GPS navigation, cameras, full sounds system, inverters etc..... $$$$ the defender had only a few electrical issuse with the relays after that. but everything else was running perfect. When we got to the top they told us that 8 - 4wd's induced water in that crossing and had the be shipped back to carins a cost around $15000. this trip really pushed the defender to its limits from Melbourne to Cape York and back and not on main highways approx 8500km

Land Rover Defender 90 in very deep water
Land Rover Defender 90 in very deep water (driving through flooded Whittington Road / Barrow Hill / Chesterfield, UK) The biggest change to the Land Rover came in late 1990, when it became the Land Rover Defender, instead of the Land Rover Ninety or One Ten. This was because in 1989 the company had introduced the Discovery model, requiring the original Land Rover to acquire a name[2]. The Discovery also had a new turbodiesel engine. This was also loosely based on the existing 2.5 litre turbo unit, and was built on the same production line, but had a modern alloy cylinder head, improved turbocharging, intercooling and direct injection. It retained the block, crankshaft, main bearings, cambelt system and other ancillaries as the Diesel Turbo. The breather system included an oil separator filter to remove oil from the air in the system, thus finally solving the Diesel Turbo's main weakness of re-breathing its own sump oil. The 200Tdi as the new engine was called produced 111 hp (83 kW) and 195 lb·ft (264 N·m) of torque, which was nearly a 25% improvement on the engine it replaced (although as installed in the Defender the engine was de-tuned slightly from its original Discovery specification (111 horsepower) due to changes associated with the exhaust).[2] This engine finally allowed the Defender to cruise comfortably at high speeds, as well as tow heavy loads speedily on hills while still being economical. Land Rover Defender Headlight Relay Upgrade
Early Defender's were produced without a relay for the headlights. This resulted in high currents passing directly through the headlight switch. Over time, the heat generated from these high currents melted the contacts within the switch and caused it to fail, resulting in the loss of headlights. The voltage drop from the under-rated wiring can be more than 1V! This reduces light output significantly. After my switch failed I decided it was time to add a relay into the wiring system. This is an easy installation which does not require any modifications to the existing headlight loom. A H4 male connector plugs into the existing headlight plug and powers the relays. Google "Headlight relay" to find a suitable wiring diagram to follow. Making the relay loom is a simple procedure that anyone with a basic degree of electrical knowledge can achieve.
