"Lavender Blue" is an English folk song that dates back to the 17th Century, and it has since been sung and recorded with variations on the verse. The first popular recording of the tune was turned in by Burl Ives in Disney's 1949 film "So Dear To My Heart". Several other recordings of "Lavender Blue" were soon made notably by Sammy Kaye and Dinah Shore. Ten years later Sammy Turner would cover the tune for the recording of his life, and one by which he will always be remembered. "Lavender Blue" was the #3 song in the nation during the summer of 1959.

Lavender Provence
In the early spring there's nothing more refreshing to me than to walk through a greenhouse like this and see so much potential growing. Just look at these gorgeous herbs. This greenhouse can hold between 40000 and 45000 of these plants. They are just getting ready to ship them out to your garden. Now what I love about this plant, which is lavender 'Provence', is that it has an incredible bloom on it. It typically blooms in the summer and 'Provence' for me performs best in really well drained soil. My garden soil is heavy clay so I amend the soil with lots of sand. The idea is to give the soil excellent drainage. Now if your garden has heavy clay and you don't have raised beds what you might try is growing 'Provence' in a container. I did this several years ago. I put 3 plants in a 24 inch terra cotta pot and they were gorgeous. As the plant grew together, which was up to about 24-inches tall it looked like one giant plant. Very dramatic. Now if you think lavender grown this way is a feast for the eyes, just wait until you smell the foliage. The foliage is so incredibly aromatic, but the blooms, well, they are just off the charts. Honeybees love them. They love the nectar. Lavender honey is very sought after. If you don't have room to plant all these lavender plants to create a beautiful field of lavender plants like we've seen in postcards of Provence, France, take a little Provence, France, place it on your patio by just planting three of these lavenders in a container <b>...</b>
Pocket Monsters Green Beta: Lavender Town Music
It's fairly well known that Pocket Monsters for the Gameboy was a huge hit when it came out in early 1996 in Japan. It's also fairly well known that the Lavender Town music was changed before the western release of the game. There are wild stories and mass speculation pertaining to this. In particular, rumors circulated of binaural beats and high-pitched frequencies being used in the original music to induce feelings of discomfort, which went almost entirely unnoticed by adults. There are also claims of children, usually close to 100 in number, committing suicide because of the music. What isn't fairly well known is that the children who died were actually part of a pre-release playtest group in late 1995, consisting of around 1000 children from the Osaka area aged between 6 and 12 years old. These children were all given a beta copy of the game on a legitimate-looking cartridge, and allowed to play at their discretion. Many of the children got as far as Lavender Town, but few continued playing after that. Out of those children, many exhibited odd symptoms, including tremors, insomnia, hallucinations and excessive picking or scratching at the skin. Indeed, many of those purported suicides were actually cases of suffocation or unchecked convulsions in the night...although some children did kill themselves in seemingly deliberate ways. The connection was immediately made between these severe cases and the music in Lavender Town, and the beta copies were recalled immediately <b>...</b>

So I decided to break out one that I've been dying to do for a long time. Lavender Town is an iconic song from the game, so needless to say, I was a bit nervous about tackling this one. Being so simplistic, it was tough to make a full cover out of it. At times I felt I needed to add a bit more to it, like harmonies and other flashy things to keep it full sounding. I hope you guys enjoy it, I didn't really have a lot of time to work on this one this week, so I apologize for that. The arrangment was a real challenge. I definitely felt that I haven't done acoustic guitar in a while so I had to bring that back in this one. However I had this huge sounding climax to the song in my head with the harmonies and everything, so I put it down. At first it sounded like I had completely changed the song to the point where you can't even hear the original elements, but because of lack of time, I left them in. I hope you guys get the nostalgic feeling from the cover still even though I roughed it up a bit. :) So this is my 51st cover on YouTube. Which means one more marks the completion of my One year of weekly video game covers! In one week, I will be releasing my final weekly video for a while. I always found this theme creepy and interesting when I was younger, so I thought I'd attemp to remake it and do better than the original's beeps and bleeps. I think it's come out pretty well. The pitch has been altered, as several people have pointed out - I thought it sounded creepier like that. I may redo this video at some point.
