Vicky Leandros - 'Ich Liebe Das Leben' (Rare Live Clip)
Not sure of the original transmission date of this,presumably German TV clip,but would guess either 1976 or 77. 'Ich Liebe Das Leben' entered the German charts on 27th March 1976 and reached #10 during it's 19 week stay. At this point Vicky's English and French language recordings became fewer as she concentrated on her more lucrative German,Dutch and Greek markets.

In 1977 Philips released a compilation double LP featuring a selection of Vicky's English language songs, titled "My Beautiful Songs" (Cat. No. Philips 6610 020/9199087/9199088) and printed in W. Germany. The No1 disk includes songs from 1967-1974, while the No2 disk is nothing more than the European pressing of Vicky's 1975 US album "Across the Water". The catalog numbering of this compilation is a total mess. The cover has the number 6610020 but the labels have 9199087 (side 1-2) and 9199088 (side 3-4). To get things worse, disk No2 has two matrix numbers stamped on: the 9199088 and the 6303128, overstamped with "X" ("XXXXXXXX"). The last number is the one of the European Philips pressing of "Across the Water". Indeed very complicated case...It's evident that Philips executives decided to renumber the existing "Across the Water" matrices (as apparently, the US album didn't sell well) and printed new renumbered copies to be packaged in this compilation. This compilation also released in 1978 and 1980 in South Africa under the title "Reflections of..Vicky Leandros" and also in 1977 in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia). The track we chose to present from this compilation is "Mamy Blue", Vicky's wondeful cover of this huge European pop hit of the early 70s. The original song was written in 1970 by the french composer Hubert Giraud and became a huge international hit of 1971, in English by Los Pop Tops (a Spanish pop/rock group) and Joel Dayde and by Nicoletta with the original <b>...</b>

In 1971 Vicky released her UK LP titled "I am" (Cat. No. Philips 6303 019), like the German one, featuring 11 tracks in English. Most of them are common with the other 1971 releases but there's a difference: Some of them have different arrangement in the music track than the German or Greek ones. One of these songs is "Love", a cover of the beautiful John Lennon's song. This time, unlike other releases, Vicky's voice is backed in a tender and soft way by an orchestra, instead of only a classical guitar. The mood of this version, with the opening and closing piano tune, is very romantic and tender and I like it very much, combined with the dreamy photos of Vicky on the UK LP cover. Especially the back cover photo, from the "Ich Bin" photo shoot, is wonderful and Vicky looks like a dreamy yet sad princess from an other time...It's noteworthy that the full face front photo is the same with the one on the cover of 1973 "Htan mia vradya" Greek LP (second pressing), and, of course, on the German 1971 "Ich Bin" LP. Also notice the sticker on the up right corner reminding the potential British buyer who she is!! This version of "Love" is the earliest of the three known until now from Vicky. Theequipment used for the transfer is Pro-Ject Debut III turntable with Ortofon OM5E cartridge, a home made phono stage using Burr Brown OPA2134 dual op-amp and styroflex caps, carefully hand-picked for best accuracy of the RIAA curve, and the internal AC-97 soundcard of my desktop PC with <b>...</b>

For all the "die hard" fans of Vicky!!! This is part I of a rare interview of her by Nikos Mastorakis, in Greek . It was part of Vicky Leandros TV special, videotaped in 1972 for YENED Greek TV channel. Lots of personal trivia directly from Vicky herself!!!! Note, also, that Leo Leandros was present in the studio, behind the cameras...This must be the only surviving document of Vicky being interviewed in Greek from her golden era of '70s, just after her ESC triumph.. The video contains hardcoded subtitles in English by me. I tried to be as much faithful as possible to the original Greek dialogues, so please forgive my mistakes. The very succesfull live concert of Vicky Leandros at the ancient Theatre of Herod Aticcus under the Acropolis of Athens. Vicky Leandros sung the symphony work "Child Vissions" and it was the first collaboration with the young composer George Voukanos in 2003. Music and orchestration by George Voukanos, Lyrics by Demetrios Roubanis. Vicky was singing with the 11 years old girl Ada Athanasopoulou with also big children Choir. The Symphony Orchestra of the Greek National Radio & Television conducted by maestro George Aravidis. This video is re-uploaded with the kind permission of George Voukanos, whom I thank so much!! I made some corrections regarding audio-video synchronization and audio equalizing. I hope now the audio is sounding better and less distorted from the original. Vicky had the unique chance in her homeland, to make with George something really special, another major step in her long and so successful career.
