This was an excerpt from a concert put on by Barrett Smith at The Duckpond Pottery in Brevard, North Carolina. Barrett was accompanied in part by Lee Barbour, and in this clip, was joined spontaneously by Asheville guitar great, John Stickley. John, who is usuallly an impeccable player, does quite nicely here especially given the advanced state of his social condition. This show took place on August 6, 2008. The clip tagged on at the end was of Japanese banjo player, Akira Satake and his band at the Spring Leaf Festival in 2008. Shenandoah is a musical that was written in 1975 with music by Gary Geld, lyrics by Peter Udell, and a book by Udell, Philip Rose and James Lee Barrett, based on Barrett's original screenplay for the 1965 film Shenandoah. Plot: Charlie Anderson, a widower, lives with his large family in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, during the American Civil War. Anderson does not wish to be involved in the war because he doesn't consider it "his" war, but he is forced to take action when his youngest son Robert is taken prisoner by Union soldiers. In the course of searching for Robert, Charlie, his daughter Jenny, and some of his sons rescue Sam (Jenny's newlywed Confederate soldier husband), from a Yankee POW train. After enduring the tragedy of losing his eldest son Jacob (to a sniper), and his second eldest son James and his wife Anne (to a deserter), Charlie is finally reunited with Robert at the end. The musical first opened at the Goodspeed Opera House in 1974 and then transferred to Broadway, opening on January 7, 1975. It ran on Broadway for a total of 1050 performances, closing August 7, 1977. Primordial are: AA Nemtheanga (Vocals) Ciáran MacUiliam (Guitars) Michael O'Floinn (Guitars) Pól MacAmlaigh (Bass) Simon O'Laoghaire (Drums) Primordial is an extreme metal band from Skerries, County Dublin, Ireland. It was formed in 1987 by Pól MacAmlaigh (bass) and Ciarán MacUiliam (guitars). Their sound melds black metal with Irish folk music. The band's roots stretch back to 1987 when Pól and Ciarán first began playing together with Pól's brother, Derek. The band (who were called Forsaken for a brief period) initially played a rough, hybrid mix of early, primitive thrash and death metal (playing covers of Death, Sepultura and the like). Vocalist Nemtheanga joined the band after seeing an advertisement for a singer in Dublin specialist Metal store The Sound Cellar in 1991. According to Primordial lore, the ad was pasted over no more than 2 hours after it being put up. Upon Nemtheanga's joining the band, the band started to pursue a darker direction citing influence from Bathory, Celtic Frost and the emerging Greek and Norwegian black metal scenes. Primordial was the first black metal styled band to emerge from Ireland with the release of their Dark Romanticism demo in the early summer of 1993 (Cruachan were also active at this time combining black metal with folk music). Hull booked their place in round four of the FA Cup after seeing off fellow Championship side Ipswich. Aaron McLean put them ahead, keeping his composure to poke home after good work from Robbie Brady. One of the most remarkable discoveries is a previously unknown live performance by Syd Barrett and his legendary band STARS on February 19th 1972. After this performance Syd only gave two more live concerts, both at Cambridge Corn Exchange on February 24th and 26th before he retired from the music scene forever! Amazingly enough, his last performance was virtually ten years to the day after his very first performance as a member of the unknown local group "Geoff Mott and the Mottoes" on March 10th 1962. The fan in question is Lee Wood, a resident of Cambridge since 1962 who recently put all his local knowledge in a limited edition DVD called "Syd's Cambridge", a tour of places in and around Cambridge associated with Syd Barrett and the roots of Pink Floyd for other fans around the world. The DVD is part of a special box set comprising 14 different items. One of the items is a small sample of soil taken from Syd Barrett's back garden in 2006 when the house was put up for sale. This has now caused a lot of controversy after a member of Syd Barrett's family heard of the item and was shocked. The box set is limited to just 100 copies and each copy is individually numbered.
