Levi's Tries On Gay Ending to Commercial By Michael Wilke August 6, 2007 Seeking to break out of the usual, Levi Strauss & Co. has created a provocative new commercial with two endings -- one with a gay twist. A man in a sleek apartment tries on a pair of jeans but struggles to pull them past his ankles, when suddenly a phone booth containing a blond man partially erupts through the floor. They look at each other with mischievous smiles. Lowering his jeans back down for a moment, he forcefully pulls his jeans all the way up -- turning his entire apartment into a complete outdoor street scene. The two men happily walk away together.

The plight of American Rust Belt is obvious in places like Braddock, Pennsylvania. A former hub of America's industrial might, the steel township just outside of Pittsburgh suffered immense decline as US steel and manufacturing industries collapsed. Subsequent drug-crime epidemic and economic downturns hasten its degeneration in recent years. But the battle just begun. With folks like Braddock's mayor John Fetterman, and the backing of Levi's, Braddock and cities like it will soon see better days to come.

A classic from the BBH stable, this ad announces the launch of the first Levi's stonewashed jeans. It's 1950s small town USA, a GI stands watching the girls. Behind him a man walks into a launderette carrying a bag of small rocks which he pours into one of the machines. He then proceeds to remove his clothes down to his boxers and socks, and put them in the machine. A thoroughly honed physique is admired by all as he takes his seat against the wall.
