The Daily News got a sneak peek at "Leiby Forever," a seven-minute song penned and performed by Lipa Schmeltzer, also known as the "Jewish Elvis." "Leiby represents a message," Schmeltzer said. "We couldn't find Leiby alive. But there are so many people alive who are still lost. Fathers without jobs. Kids without food. We need to make the world a happier place." Leiby Kletzky was killed last month after a man snatched him off the street. The boy was dismembered and his feet found in the freezer of accused butcher Levi Aron. The medical examiner's office said last month that Leiby died of acute intoxication from a mix of Tylenol and three prescription drugs - a painkiller, a muscle relaxer and an anti-psychotic medicine. A spokeswoman for the office said yesterday that investigators also found a fifth drug - Cymbalta, a depression medication. Sunday, January 30 2011 Over 1500 people from all ages packed the Kongresshaus, a major focal point of social life in Zurich, for the 14th Bi-Annual Chassidic Song Festival, Organized by Chabad of Switzerland, under the leadership of Rabbi Mendel Rosenfeld, the evening was a tribute to Chabad's 29th year of toil and implanting Jewish education and awareness in Switzerland. 7 Chabad centers in the country all aim at connecting Jewish people with their heritage. The star performers of this year's concert were Lipa Schmeltzer, one of the most exciting Jewish entertainers today, and Chaim Yisrael who offered his unique blend of Mizrahi & contemporary Jewish music. Accompanying them was the renowned Freilach Band from New York, led by Mendy Hershkowitz, who was the evening's musical director. "There's one individual," says Mr. Alexander, "who today in honor of Rabbi Shiale Karsterer's yahrzeit (memorial day), sponsored MASBIA with the most lavish meal you could imagine. Airmont singer to pen song as tribute to Leiby Kletzky (07/20/11) AIRMONT - The abduction and murder of an 8-year-old Brooklyn boy has shaken people across the country, including a popular Hasidic singer from Airmont. Lipa Schmeltzer, a father of four, says he went to Brooklyn on Sunday to express his condolences to the grieving family of Leiby Kletzky, who police say got lost leaving his day camp and asked Levi Aron, the suspect in his death, for help before he was killed last week. Schmeltzer says he struggled to sing a Yiddish song to Leiby's younger sister to comfort her. "I was so broken," he says. "I couldn't open my mouth." Schmeltzer says a story the Kletzky family shared has inspired him to work on a new song that will be called "The Story of Leiby." He says the lyrics will touch on how special the 8-year-old boy was and the importance of uniting the community, which was shattered by an unspeakable crime.
