For this machine, I'll use the exact same words I used for the Blue Mountains truck... it's massive, has a great sound to the engine and looks awesome! On Tuesday 16th, December 2008 I took a bus and three trains to the Hunter Valley, found 160km (100 mile) way up north of Sydney. I jumped off at a suburb called Thornton, which is found under Maitland City Council. A company called Hunter Resource Recovery (HRR) manages the recycling service within a particular area of the Hunter Region, comprising of Lake Macquarie, Cessnock and Maitland councils. Each council has the same recycling system, involving a fortnightly collected, east-west split 240L which has been in operation since 1997. The contractor for the region's recycling collection is Solo Resource Recovery, another Richards company. The type of truck that collects the bins in the three councils is known as the SCRAP (Simultaneous Collection of Recyclables & Paper) System, one of Solo's three unique split collection trucks. The 5-week-old truck in this video reflects Solo's 4th split-body design, adding to the 3 previous models. These three councils are the only ones that use the SCRAP System in Australia. This type of truck's operation is pretty straight-forward: the bin sits on the teeth of the lifter, a jet stream of water flips the lid open, then the bin is raised where the truck and bin dividers meet perfectly. Subject: Math and Science Grade: Kindergarten Lesson Plan: Dino-Bingo Description: I designed this unit to integrate the fun of science to learn about dinosaurs integrated with the concepts of addition and subtraction. Using the dinosaurs as my hook, I was able to capture the students' interest while teaching the math lessons. By using modeling, manipulatives, and puppets, the students embarked on their math lesson with the assistance of their dinosaur friends. This was one of 9 lessons from the unit. Each unit began with a review of dinosaurs or a story dealing with dinosaurs and counting (forwards or backwards). This unit in particular began with a review of one of the dinosaur the students' learned and then expanded into their math lesson by having the dinosaur review addition and subtraction. The students then got to go back with a partner and play dino-bingo to practice their addition and subtraction. By the end of the unit the students had demonstrated a full understanding of basic addition and subtraction as shown by their assessment scores. Along with their math skills, they understood the concept of herbivores and carnivores, different dinosaurs and eras they were from, as well as the concept of a suitable habitat for each dinosaur. This unit also worked on graphing skills, reading comprehension and measuring.

SIR WILFRED THESIGER, last of the great gentleman adventurers, was, in the words of David Attenborough, 'one of the very few people who in our time could be put on the pedestal of the great explorers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.' Born at the British Legation in 1910 in Addis Ababa, Thesiger spent his early years in Abyssinia. He was educated at Eton and Oxford and in 1930, aged twenty, attended the coronation of Haile Selassie at the Emperor's personal invitation. Throughout his life he journeyed through some of the remotest, most dangerous areas of Africa, the Middle East and Asia, witnessing and photographing fast-changing cultures to great acclaim. His many inspiring travels involved explorations in Ethiopia, wartime service with the SOE and the SAS, crossings of the Empty Quarter of Arabia, sojourns in the Iraqi marshes and many loyal and sometimes turbulent friendships. The drivers of these three Pacific National 82 class locomotives (8215, 8226 & 8251) had to wait over 3 hours for a works crew to do some emergency repairs to a broken rail before they could continue their journey. A number of coal trains were banked up behind this one, all needing to carefully cross the broken rail at at no more than 10km/h. Once the backlog of trains cleared single line working was implemented and the track crew could finally begin the more permanant repairs to the track. Poath Junction notes "I had arrived on site for some pre-dawn filming and noted the stationary coal train at 6am. It did not get clearance to proceed over the broken rail until just on 8:30am! It took just a few seconds under 10 minutes for the train to pass, I've condensed this a bit and also added a 'timelapse' type sequence of the workers as they did some preliminary repair work on the track.".
