911 Tape Reveals Homeowner Being Shot Six Times By Phoenix Police After Calling 911 The Phoenix Police Department is responding to a September 2008 incident that led a Phoenix homeowner to sue the city and police department. Tony Arambula is seeking $5.75 million in damages for himself and his family after he was shot by police on September 17, 2008 when officers responded to a call about an intruder inside his central Phoenix home. Phoenix Police Spokesperson Tommy Thompson said in a press release this week that officers responded to a call at Arambula's Phoenix home, but "after entering the residence, one of the officers mistakenly shot the armed home owner." Arambula now alleges while at his home that night, officers conspired to cover up the mistake. Michael Manning, Arambula's attorney, said the 911 tape helps prove the claim. "The sergeant says, 'don't worry about it, I got your back,'" said Manning. The press release from Phoenix police goes on to say that the "department has been honest and forthright from the very onset of this incident. No attempt has been made to conceal the truth or the facts surrounding it." Thompson acknowledges Arambula's lawsuit in the release and says his department will not be making any further statements as the litigation process takes its course. West Yorkshire Police are appealing for information to help find trace missing 17-year-old Ben Manning. Ben who lives in Swillington, Leeds, was reported missing on Saturday morning (January 22) by his mother after he failed to return home from a night out in Wakefield. Ben had been dropped off in the city centre by his mother and had been to watch his friend's band play a gig in The Black Flag on Smyth Street. He was last seen near the JCT 600 garage on Denby Dale Road having walked from Westgate, down Queen Street, along George Street at the side of Gala Bingo across Ings Road and along Denby Dale Road. West Yorkshire Police are carrying out extensive enquiries to trace him including searches of local land by officers from the Wakefield Division, supported by the Operational Support Division, along with enquiries by the North East Leeds Division. The Force Helicopter is involved along with specially-trained search dogs and other police specialists. Police are continuing to speak to Ben's friends and family to see if they have any information which can assist enquiries. More than eight hours of video footage released Friday showed it was one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's officers who used a Taser on a Latino military veteran that later died. The video also showed the veteran was nearly lifeless when officers put him naked in a cell and left him alone for about 11 minutes. Two agencies were involved in an altercation with Ernest "Marty" Atencio when they tried to book him into an Arizona jail on suspicion of assault last week. But until now, neither the Maricopa County Sheriff's office nor the Phoenix Police Department had admitted to using a Taser in the melee. That was despite the fact that an attorney for Atencio's family said doctors found obvious signs that some sort of stun gun had been used. Now, video released Arpaio's office shows it was one of his men, not any of the Phoenix police officers, who used the Taser to try to subdue Atencio. The veteran was taken to a Phoenix hospital after the scuffle. There, he was pronounced brain dead and kept on life support for days. On Tuesday, his family gathered by his bedside and gave doctors the order to remove him. He died a short time later. The video released Friday was made available on DVDs to local media outlets in Arizona. The footage showed the altercation from 26 camera angles. Eighty year-old Daniel Ellsberg was arrested on Saturday in front of the White House when he refused to leave at the request of police. He was one of 113 people who were arrested, handcuffed and taken to the police station on March 19, 2011 for protesting President Obama's continued torture of Bradley Manning. Manning is being held in pre-trial confinement at the Quantico brig. His psychological evaluation has been deliberately mis-categorized for 8 months now by two Quantico brig commanders, over the objections of three brig psychiatrists, in order to subject him to dehumanizing and humiliating conditions. The current Brig Commander Denise Barnes recently ordered that Manning be stripped naked each night "for his own good." President Obama has voiced his firm support for Barnes' actions. At a recent press conference, he said he personally asked the Pentagon if the conditions of Manning's confinement were appropriate. "They assure me that they are." Obama echoed Barnes' justification for stripping Manning naked each night when he said "some of this has to do with Private Manning's safety." Obama also recently forced State Department spokesman PJ Crowley to resign after he said that Manning's treatment was "ridiculous," "counterproductive" and "stupid."
