Charles Gounod - Funeral March of a Marionette

Charles Gounod (1818-1893) The "Funeral March of a Marionette," slight as it is, has never lost its charm. It was originally written as one of the movements of a Suite Burlesque, which was never completed. BBC Philharmonic conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier The music in the beginning is supposed to tell the listener that two of the members of the Marionette troupe have had a duel and one of them has been killed. A party of pallbearers is organized and the procession sets out for the cemetery in march time. The music soon takes on a more cheerful spirit, for some of the troupe, wearied with the march, seek consolation at a wayside inn, where they refresh themselves and also descant upon the many virtues of their late companion. At last they get into place again and the procession enters the cemetery to the march rhythm -- the whole closing with the bars intended to reflect upon the briefness and weariness of life, even for marionettes. Alfred Hitchcock Presents is well known for its title sequence. The camera fades in on a simple line-drawing caricature of Hitchcock's rotund profile. As the program's theme music, Charles Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette, plays, Hitchcock himself appears in silhouette from the right edge of the screen, and then walks to center screen to eclipse the caricature. He then almost always says "Good evening."

Funeral March for a Marionette

COFA Prouctions and Eric Fonseca presents his indie animated homage to Gounod's classical piece "Funeral March for a Marionette". One full year in production, I created the story line based upon this classical tune (ala Disney's Fantastia), made the sets and puppets, animated them, and loved every second of this wonderful art form. I am in production on my second short film, The Fall of the House of Usher, and am really excited about this one. Thanks to everyone for the awesome feedback and supportive comments.

'Marionettes' was developed from a series of 'dance for film' workshops with members of the Scottish Ballet Corps. Limor Ziv's choreography and its puppet characters Pieretta and Puaro, are based on lyrics written by Hebrew poet Leah Goldberg, famously put to music by Achinoam Nini.

The Spirit Of Christmas (1950) "The Night Before Christmas" (Mabel Beaton Marionettes)

Click here! ► TrustSanta.com A Visit From St. Nicholas or 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (1950) The puppets were created by Mabel and Les Beaton Marionettes and I personally wanted to learn more after having this for so long. In my searching for info on this film, I found that she wrote a book "The Complete Book of Marionettes" and ordered it. You can find it here amzn.to Produced by the Bell Systems Telephone Company, usually along with their other production of "The Nativity". Seems to have been most popular in Pennsylvania. That is all the info I could find on this fantastic piece of puppetry. Unfortunately I do not have much info on this short, as there was no title or credits. I had to add and enhance the picture and audio, and added the title and closing as it was not edited properly. "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (also known as "The Night Before Christmas" and "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" from its first line) is a poem written by Clement Clarke Moore, first published anonymously in 1823. It is largely responsible for the conception of Santa Claus from the mid-nineteenth century to today, including his physical appearance, the night of his visit, his mode of transportation, the number and names of his reindeer, and the tradition that he brings toys to children. Prior to the poem, American ideas ...

Salzburg Marionette Theatre: "The Sound of Music"

When Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved Broadway musical "The Sound of Music" was adapted to the silver screen in 1965, Twentieth Century-Fox made the creative decision to use marionettes in The Lonely Goatherd sequence, resulting in one of the most charming musical numbers ever captured on film. Now, the astounding magic of marionette puppetry animates the entire story, as the world famous Salzburg Marionette Theater revitalizes the true tale of the Von Trapp Family Singers! "The Sound of Music" is set in and around Salzburg, Austria, home of the world renowned Salzburg Marionettes, but it wasn't until last year that the Marionette Theater and "The Sound of Music" came together. Now, this exquisite troupe brings the story from the snowy Alps to the Green Mountains— coincidentally, just miles from where the Von Trapp family eventually settled in Stowe. Formed in 1913, the Marionettes have traveled the world and put audiences under its unique spell in performances of operas, ballets, and fairytales. With "The Sound of Music," the company further extends its artistic scope into American musical theater. However, a smaller stage does not mean a smaller show—expect all the highlights of the Broadway blockbuster, including the spectacular songs "Do-Re-Mi," "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," and "Edelweiss." Alexander Glazunov - Scenes de Ballet (2/8) Marionettes

Drawings by Kindergarden through Elementary 5th Grade students, drawn when listening to this music. Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov (Russian: Александр Константинович Глазунов, Aleksandr Konstantinovič Glazunov; French: Glazounov; German: Glasunow; 10 August [OS 29 July] 1865 - 21 March 1936) was a Russian composer of the late Russian Romantic period, music teacher and conductor. He served as director of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory between 1905 and 1928 and was also instrumental in the reorganization of the institute into the Petrograd Conservatory, then the Leningrad Conservatory, following the Bolshevik Revolution. He continued heading the Conservatory until 1930, though he had left the Soviet Union in 1928 and did not return. The best known student under his tenure during the early Soviet years was Dmitri Shostakovich. Scenes de Ballet op. 52 (1894) USSR State Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky Glazunov was significant in that he successfully reconciled nationalism and cosmopolitanism in Russian music. While he was the direct successor to Balakirev's nationalism, he tended more towards Borodin's epic grandeur while absorbing a number of other influences. These included Rimsky-Korsakov's orchestral virtuosity, Tchaikovsky's lyricism and Taneyev's contrapuntal skill. His weaknesses were a streak of academicism which sometimes overpowered his inspiration and an eclecticism which could sap the ultimate stamp of originality ...
