READ THIS FIRST - This video shows that initially people protested peacefully for several hours. They were totally ignored by the police. A 16 year old girl then threw a stone or a bottle at police. She was brutally beaten up. That is the point when violence started and riots were ignited. Everybody knows what followed. In Tottenham the tactic was used again and the police cars destructions were recorded with carefully planned precision to catch angry young people who had totally lost the plot. The funeral of the man whose death sparked widespread unrest across England has taken place in his home neighbourhood. Mark Duggan was shot dead by police in the London suburb of Tottenham one month ago, and the community responded with unrest that amounted to burned buildings, broken windows and some deaths. The funeral cortege, made up of hundreds or thousands of Londoners, passed through his home area - Broadwater Farm - a part of London that was scarred by riots 26 years ago. Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from Tottenham.

On the 4th August 2011 at approximately at 6pm, an incident occurred in which a young man, a father of four was gunned down by police officers. His name was Mark Duggan, 29. Much was made of this incident, it was alleged that the victim had fired at police initially, a claim that proved to be untrue. The police and IPCC's investigation and overall handling of the case can be questioned in a variety of ways. The family of Mr Duggan where treated with a lack of compassion. What followed the death of Mr Duggan was widespread riots across the UK, this enabled the media to focus away from the real issue at hand and turn their attention to the riots. This documentary will focus solely on Mr Duggan and the suspicious events surrounding his death. In part 1 of this series we will look at the media and their handling of the case, including many interviews that they would dare not show again on TV as the true voice of the people is being spoken. This documentary features initial news reports of the incident through to the funeral of Mr Duggan. Nearly six months after the death of Mr Duggan there are many questions that remain unanswered. The IPCC have stated that the bullet, which the Police claimed was fired by Mark Duggan was "Police issue" which means it was fired by a Police weapon. The Police claimed that this bullet, which was found in a Police car radio was fired by Duggan therefore justifying the Police returning fire and killing Duggan. The IPCC have also stated that there is no proof that the gun found at the scene had even been fired which totally discredits Police claims that they were protecting themselves. This was cold blooded MURDER!! and the catalyst for all the social disorder currently engulfing the UK. Q - If Duggan didn't fire the bullet, who did? Petrol bombs have been thrown at police and three patrol cars, a bus and buildings have been set on fire in a riot in Tottenham, north London. Eight injured police officers have been taken to hospital, at least one of them with head injuries. The unrest began after a protest over the fatal shooting by police of 29-year-old Mark Duggan on Thursday. About 300 people gathered outside the police station on the High Road after demonstrators demanded "justice". London Ambulance Service said a total of 10 people had been treated and nine had been taken to hospital. Two patrol cars were set alight at about 20:20 BST but officers were not inside at the time.

4th August 2011. Mark Duggan (29, Father of 4) is shot in a Police operation involving officers from Operation Trident and the Specialist Firearms Command (CO19). At 1815 (6pm) the Police say they stopped a mini cab that Mark was traveling in to carry out a pre-planned arrest. There are conflicting reports about the shooting. According to one report in the Evening Standard, a man claimed he saw officers shoot a man while he was on the ground. The Guardian reported that a friend said Mark had been "feeling down" after a friend was killed this year. During a demonstration outside Tottenham Police station in Tottenham High Road (on the 6th August) trouble erupts and develops into a riot. This continues throughout the night and into 7th August, with crowds moving from Tottenham into Wood Green. A number of properties are burned down. Many properties are looted. On the 8th August a vigil is held not far from Tottenham Police station, where some local people expressed their anger and frustration at failings by the local authority (Haringey Council), Government and Police.
