A Mercedes G-Wagen movie i shot last september this time with proper video equipment. Featuring some really nice climbs on soft red sand, showing how the newly installed 5.0 V8 takes this G-class, originaly a W460 1979 230G (90 horsepower :)), everywhere or almost. "The Nasty" is fitted with Mudzilla tires, with the front locker not working that day. The 5.0 V8 engine comes from a sedan W126 500SE, it delivers something like 240 horsepower and 400N.m of torque, enough to pull the 2.5 tonns LWB on any slope. A moment after we started shooting, the engine started to misfire; we later found out that the fuel tank had only like 25 liters in it, fuel had trouble reaching the engine on some hard slopes. or "How to recover a 2 tons truck from the mud" Certainly not with ATVs. It's such a big hassle to recover a 2 tons truck deeply stuck in the mud. Non stop rain made the track very difficult that day, a recovery Bulldozer was supposed to take care of stuck cars but got itself stuck too. ATV s tried to pull it with no result, a Wrangler Rubicon failed. Hours later, a Chevy Blazer and a Chevy powered Range Rover managed to pull it out in tandem.

Short video of the PTO/power take off unit on a parts GI purchased. Info on this rare option is scarce so I thought I'd post this video. I cant find much info on the driveshafts or winches themselves, I think MB and Werner may have made winches for the G like they did for the Unimog's PTO. Please post a comment if you have info on part numbers, pics or known applications for this PTO.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen, short for Geländewagen (or cross-country vehicle), is a four-wheel drive vehicle / sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by German automaker Mercedes-Benz. It was borne by proposals for a military vehicle in the early 1970s by the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, a major Daimler-Benz shareholder. The G-Wagen was developed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch and first offered for sale in 1979 and redesigned in 1990/1991. A new version was expected for 2007, but the new GL-Class will not replace the G-Wagen, and it will continue to be hand-built in Graz, Austria at an annual production of 4000 to 6000 units. In February 2009, Magna Steyr, an operating unit of Magna International, announced that it signed an agreement with Daimler AG to extend the production of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class at Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria until 2015. Besides the production, the further development of the G-Class by Mercedes-Benz is also located in Graz since 1992. October 6th,2007. Two frinds in a Land rover lightweight, a Pinzgauer and myself in my G-Wagen took on the "Top of the World" trail in Mclean creek, Alberta. At the end of the day the Land rover broke down. The fron diff lost some teeth, and the half shafts were jamming. We took the diff apart and remove the crown. No more problems The Landy made it back home. "Is Never Over in a Land rover.." (still I like better my G-wagen)
