Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off its latest supercar, the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Gone are the gullwing doors and fixed roof; in their place are traditional entry-ports and a folding cloth softtop. The car is still undergoing testing, but these shots reveal far more of the car than we've previously seen in various spy photos. A more polished version will be revealed to the world at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Before the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster hits the show circuit, it needs to spend some more time with Mercedes' engineers. The MB team has put a lot of work into this drop-top SLS, and ditching the fixed roof has required more than simply taking a sawzall to the bodywork. Though the aluminum spaceframe was originally developed with both a coupe and convertible in mind, Benz engineers added beefier side-skirts to the roadster. This allows for improvements in both crash performance and overall rigidity. Further aiding in the quest for increased strength, a cross-member that supports the dashboard was given additional bracing at both the window frame and transmission tunnel. Despite this increased rigidity, the bodyshell of the SLS AMG Roadster weighs just five pounds more than the bodyshell of the SLS AMG Coupe. Like its hardtop sibling, the roadster is capable of hitting an electronically limited top speed of 197 miles per hour. Mercedes has revealed its all-new £180k soft-top version of the SLS AMG, which promises to be one of the most potent and exclusive cabrios on UK roads. The Roadster is due for launch at Frankfurt in September, but UK dealers will start taking orders next month. The first production slots for right-hand-drive cars are available in November. As might be expected from a sports car that was conceived from the outset as a soft-top as well as coupé, the Roadster appears a particularly neat conversion. It features new frameless doors with conventional hinges, designed to replace the exotic gullwing design of the coupé. Because the SLS's lightweight alloy structure was designed with an open-top body structure in mind, minimal reinforcements have been added, which also keeps weight gain to a minimum. The thickness of the sill material is beefed up and there are struts off the centre tunnel to support the dashboard 'cross-car beam'. Structural stiffness at the rear is boosted by a strut between the soft top and the fuel tank. Thanks to the roof and its hydraulic motors, the Roadster is heavier than the coupé — but by a fairly modest 40kg. That gives it a kerb weight of 1660kg. Here is the 1st video of a serial videos of the Zoute Grand Prix 2011. It was a classic supercars rally but some new supercars was there too and was exposed for people. It was the first of my life i saw a Bugatti EB110 GT on the road ( 2nd one i see in real !!) I think this car is the unique Belgian EB 110 GT. Great surprise also when i saw the 1st Belgian Mclaren MP4-12C :D and for the finish, when i took the come back road, there was a Mclaren Mercedes SLR Roadster and i took some shoot with my Figaro ;) Also of course, great others supercars were present like the Audi R8 Spyder, 2x Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640, lots of Gallardo, 2x Ferrari FF also 2x, SLS AMG Roadster,( second cars in another video ).
