(I've created a repeating video montage of some of Merman's photos, for visual interest). Here is a beautiful song by legendary singer and actress Ethel Merman. Ethel Merman (born Ethel Agnes Zimmermann, 1908 -- 1984) was a American actress of stage and film musicals, well known for her powerful voice, often hailed by critics as "The Grande Dame of the Broadway stage". Merman was known for her powerful, belting mezzo-soprano voice, precise enunciation, and pitch. Because stage singers performed without microphones when she began singing professionally, she had great advantages in show business, despite the fact that she never received any singing lessons. Merman began singing while working as a secretary for the BK Booster (automobile) Vacuum Brake Company in Queens. She eventually became a full time vaudeville performer and played the pinnacle of vaudeville, the Palace Theatre in New York City. She had already been engaged for "Girl Crazy", a musical with songs by George and Ira Gershwin, which also starred a very young Ginger Rogers (19 years old) in 1930. Although third billed, her rendition of "I Got Rhythm" in the show was popular, and by the late 1930's, she had become the first lady of the Broadway musical stage. Many consider her the leading Broadway musical performer of the Twentieth century, with her signature song being "There's No Business Like Show Business" (from "Annie Get Your Gun"). Another neoprene tail I have constructed. FAQ's: Where did you buy the tail? - I didn't buy it, I made it... How did you make it? - The only details I can/will give away are all listed below. Can you make me one? - Message me for information. I take very limited orders. What is the song? - Sunshine (Bimbo Jones Edit) - Gareth Gates Comments/Suggestions are highly appreciated! -New custom built monofin. -5 "extra" fins (1 tattered dorsal, 2 tattered heel fins, and 2 tattered pectoral fins, each with textured "veins") -"Textured" fluke This one has been made totally different than my orange "Splash" tail. I researched a new type of plastic/rubber to use in the bottom, giving me more power and a more "realistic flap" through the water. This tail took about 4 days to paint (combination of airbrush and spray paint). I used a total of 16 cans of spray paint. This tail took me about 3 weeks to construct, and is very time consuming, and expensive. Many people have left comments asking how I made it, and I apologize for not responding. It is very difficult to explain how to make a mermaid/merman tail, and its also hard to "give away your secret". I will let you know some materials I use are: Neoprene "Zip Fins" Approx. 2 18 oz. bottles of "Gorrilla Glue" Approx. 25 tubes "Krazy Glue" (Gets pretty expensive) Lots, and lots of industrial fishing line (usually 20lb+ test line) Fabric Dye Prisma-colors/Sharpies/Permanent Fabric Markers ...and a few more. In the early 1950s, Ethel Merman began singing a special arrangement of a dozen or so of the classic showtunes she introduced on Broadway. Roger Edens provided the "Lady with a Song" introductory verse. This 1960 performance is updated to include "Small World" from Merman's current show, "Gypsy." For technical reasons, Merman was required to lip-synch the medley for TV instead of singing live. However, this ten-minute traversal of "Ethel's Greatest Hits" does offer a sense of the performer's legendary onstage electricity.

Fun Facts about this tail: The Tail was made by myself, it has a zipper in the back hidden by the fins. All the black on the tail is............ .......... permanent marker! (Betcha weren't expecting that!) The Yellow is paint for "soft" fabric, that can be obtailed at JoAnn Fabrics. The first dorsal fin is held together by velcro. The fluke contains 2 swim fins attatched to flexible plastic. You may also see slits cut into the bottom of the fluke, this is for water to escape the vinyl material. I accidentally sew myself to the tail as I had to hand sew the entire thing because it was too thick. Was inspired by the tail used in "Slash, Too". It is not a replica, I said "inspired by". By swimming in the tail, I have lost weight. This is why it is sliding off. (the dark you see under the tail are my swim trunks) Took 3 months to construct. Can make similar tails for serious interest only. Do NOT bombard me with emails! I will NOT tell you step by step how to do it. I gave you the materials I used and the method of constructing it. Most importantly: SWIMMING WITH YOUR LEGS BOUND TOGETHER IS AN UNSAFE PRACTICE. THE TAIL DOES NOT INHANCE THE SWIMMING ABILITY.
