PELLIN RODRIGUEZ and ANDY MONTANEZ sing OJOS CHINOS which is an original version in this historic video under the banner EL COMBO DEL AYER. I was looking for another video recorded long time ago in VHS format that was given to me by my old friend Gilbert Mamery then I stumble on this one. What a surprise! In September 1982, some ex-members of EL GRAN COMBO including; Pellín Rodriguez, Roberto Roena, Martin Quiñones, Milton Correa, Hector Santos and Victor Pérez, re-grouped under the banner of El Combo Del Ayer (The Combo Of The Past). The band leader was trumpeter Elias Lopez. The rest of the musicians remained with Rafael Ithier under the banner EL GRAN COMBO. EL COMBO DEL AYER was very successful, but, later on, they disbanded because other better opportunities came along for most of the members, especially Andy Montanez and Pellin Rodriguez who mostly went to sing with other groups of the time. Pellin Rodríguez died on October 31, 1984 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We bring this video for those of you that have not seen this magnificent group. Pellin's mother and my father were cousins.
