What Matters More by Derek Webb [Music Video]

Derek Webb's controversial song "What Matters More" from his new album, Stockholm Syndrome. Lyrics: You say you always treat people like you like to be I guess you love being hated for your sexuality You love when people put words in your mouth 'Bout what you believe, make you sound like a freak 'Cause if you really believe what you say you believe You wouldn't be so damn reckless with the words you speak Wouldn't silently conceal when the liars speak Denyin' all the dyin' of the remedy Tell me, brother, what matters more to you? Tell me, sister, what matters more to you? If I can tell what's in your heart by what comes out of your mouth Then it sure looks to me like being straight is all it's about It looks like being hated for all the wrong things Like chasin' the wind while the pendulum swings 'Cause we can talk and debate until we're blue in the face About the language and tradition that he's comin' to save Meanwhile we sit just like we don't give a shit About 50000 people who are dyin' today Tell me, brother, what matters more to you? Tell me, sister, what matters more to you?

Nat King Cole - Nature Boy (Stereo Version)

One of the most popular and controversial songs Nat ever recorded was this one written by eden ahbez (he preferred not having his name capitalized). Nat first recorded the song on Aug. 22, 1947 with a wonderful arrangement of it done by Frank DeVol. The song was first presented to Nat while he was working in a local club in LA, and its songwriter, ahbez, handed it to Nat along with a card from Johnny Mercer (so the story goes) in hopes that Mercer's influence would get Nat to take a serious look at it and possibly record it. The reference to Mercer is important since ahbez was dressed in a flowing white gown with sandals and a full beard when he was introduced to Nat. Nat was a little taken aback by the entire scene, but he did take the song home with him and played it on his piano. He saw all the musical possibilities with it and subsequently a recording session was arranged with DeVol to record it. The song became the #1 hit in America for 8 weeks, but when Nat tried to locate eden ahbez to ensure he received his royalties he was nowhere to be found since he had not left anyone a forwarding address. Legend has it that ahbez was finally found with a pregnant wife living in a sleeping bag under the letter "L" of the famed HOLLYWOOD sign. "Nature Boy" was used as the theme for the 1948 movie "The Boy With Green Hair" starring Pat O'Brien and a young Dean Stockwell, and appropriately so since the film concerned the fate of WW2 war orphans. Ron Mann's Grass Movie Clip

Marijuana is the most controversial drug of the twentieth century. Smoked by generations of musicians, students, and workers to little discernible ill effect, it continues to be reviled by the vast majority of governments around the world. With his new film, Grass, veteran filmmaker Ron Mann brings his impeccable historical facility and story telling skills to recount how a relatively harmless drug has been demonized for decades. With a rueful yet incisive script, deft editing and an impressive soundtrack featuring original songs by Mark Mothersbaugh (DEVO, PEE WEE's PLAYHOUSE) and a veritable pot-pourri of tunes ranging from the Swing Era's "Reefer Man" through Dylan's "Rainy Day Women" to the hippie lament "One Toke Over The Line," Grass boasts extraordinary production values. Funny and politically scathing, Grass charts the terrible loss in imprisoned lives and billions of dollars wasted fighting a drug that refuses to go away. Director Ron Mann is available to speak with Grass Grass - Criterion is available for theatrical runs, individual screenings, and institutional sale through Evil Twin Booking. www.eviltwinbooking.org info *a*t* eviltwinbooking.org

"Yet Another Movie" - Pink Floyd In Venice - July 15th 1989

This was probably the most controversial concert of Pink Floyd's career. Despite local protests, they were allowed to play a free concert from a badge in the lagoon opposite St. Marks square, from where an estimated 200.000 people watched. The concert was nearly cancelled on July 13th when the City's Superintendent of Monuments claimed that the vibration could damage buildings. To pacify critics, Pink Floyd played at reduce volume, but there still claims of damage to marble cladding after the concert. Lamp-Posts were also broken by fans climbing them for a better view. The city authorities failed to provide facilities for the visitin fans, many of whom slept in St. Marks square. They left behind them 300 tons of litter and feces, which had to be cleared by the army. After a seven-hour sitting, the council apologized to Venice residents for the inconvenience, promising that no similar concert would ever be allowed. The alderman in charge of Venice's Culture Committee, explaining: "I feel that I have to go, because I'm one of the people who gave the go-ahead for this concert". Despite initially refusing to do likewise, the rest of the council went soon after, leaving the city in the hands of an ad-hoc administration. Over 100 Million viewers in 23 countries (including the Soviet Union, Israel, Yugoslavia and East Germany) saw the show on TV.

Oasis - Little By Little

"Little by Little" is a song by British rock band Oasis, first released as the sixth track on their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry. In September 2002, it was released with "She Is Love" as the first (and, so far, only) double A-sided single by the band, peaking at #2 in the UK Singles Chart. Noel Gallagher provides lead vocals on both tracks, which he also wrote. "Little by Little" was perhaps the most controversial song on the album, receiving mixed reviews from those who felt it was a classic example of an upbeat Oasis anthem and those who felt it was a twee, patronising, sycophantic melody. Regardless of this, the song managed to peak at number two in the UK charts based largely on the publicity garnered by the song. The promo video to the song featured a guest role by Robert Carlyle. The cover art for the single is an homage to Robert Indiana's LOVE artwork.

Lethal Injection is the 4th solo album by California-based rapper Ice Cube. Like the rapper's previous albums, it was a commercial hit, however it was heavily criticized for what many saw as Cube's pandering to gangsta rap, and toning down of the socio-political content found on his earlier efforts. The albums standing has increased over time. It includes two of Cube's most popular singles; the "You Know How We Do It", and the Funkadelic-sampling "Bop Gun (One Nation)", which became a staple on MTV. Lethal Injection contains the scathing "Cave Bitch", on which Cube chastises white women who pursue successful black men as a trophy. On "Lil' Ass Gee" he tells the tale of an adolescent who follows his older brother into a life of petty crime and little hope. "When I Get to Heaven" is one of Ice Cube's most controversial songs. On the song expresses his own opinion of religions and race.

Michael Jackson They Don't Care About Us

They Don't Care About Us" is the fourth single from Michael Jackson's album HIStory. The song remains one of the most controversial pieces Jackson ever composed. In the US, media scrutiny surrounding alleged antisemitic lyrics were the catalyst for Jackson issuing multiple apologies and re-recording the albumaltering the lyrics for that particular track. The singer countered allegations of antisemitism, arguing that reviews had misinterpreted the context of the song, either unintentionally or deliberately. Musically, it is an aggressive hip-hop production about social ills. The song was accompanied by two music videos directed by Spike Lee. The first was shot in a shantytown of Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador where State authorities tried to ban all production over fears the video would damage their image, the area and prospects of staging the 2004 Olympics. Still, the residents of the area were happy to see the singer, hoping their problems would be made visible to a wider audience. The second video was shot in a prison and contained video footage of multiple references to human rights abuses. Commercially, the song became a top ten hit in all European countries. Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax

"Relax" is the debut single by British new wave/pop group Frankie Goes to Hollywood, released in 1983. The song was later included on the album Welcome to the Pleasuredome (1984). Although fairly inauspicious upon initial release, "Relax" finally reached number one in the UK singles chart on 24 January 1984, ultimately becoming one of the most controversial and most commercially successful records of the entire decade. The single eventually sold a reported 1.91 million copies in the UK alone, making it the seventh best-selling single in UK singles chart history. Following the release of the group's second single, "Two Tribes", "Relax" rallied from a declining UK chart position during June 1984 to climb back up the UK charts and re-attain number two spot behind "Two Tribes" at number one, representing multaneous chart success by a single act unprecedented since the early 1960s. Upon release in the United States in late 1984, "Relax" repeated its slow UK progress, reaching number 67 upon initial release, but eventually reaching number 10 in March 1985. The song won Best British Single at the 1985 Brit Awards. The song was used in the films Body Double, Police Academy, The Proposal, and Zoolander, in which it is the trigger for the main character to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The song was also featured in the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and a 2009 TV advert for Virgin Atlantic, marking 25 years since the company's foundation.

Chokehold - Underneath

Chokehold Biography Chokehold were a vegan straight edge hardcore band hailing from Hamilton, Ontario in Canada. They first formed in 1990, releasing the More Than Ever demo tape in 1991. This was quickly followed in 1992 by a split EP with Crisis of Faith and the Life Goes On EP that same year. The band was soon renowned as one of the heaviest in hardcore, drawing ire from some purists for incorporating metal riffage into their sound. Their rise in popularity paralleled that of other vegan straight edge bands such as Earth Crisis and hardline bands like Vegan Reich and Raid. While bands that adhered to Hardline were totally opposed to abortion, Chokehold was vehemently pro-choice. While Chokehold were atheists and radicals with a strongly anarchist streak to their politics, many of the hardline bands were by contrast conservative (expressing belief in a higher power, homophobia, support for the death penalty and prisons and other conservative views). In 1993 Chokehold released the Prison of Hope LP through American label Conquer the World Records (CTW). They released their next record, 1994s Instilled EP, on Philadelphia, PAs Bloodlink Records. This EP featured some of their most powerful and political material to date, notably the anti-religious song Anchor, the anti-homophobia song Mindset, and Burning Bridges, with its hard-hitting lyrics: The corporations are aware where the average person is not, violence against one meat eater is not going to liberate a million ...

Thomas Mapfumo & Acid Band - Matiregerera Mambo ('76, Zimbabwe)

www.facebook.com Thomas Mapfumo's life began in rural Rhodesia in July of 1945, about 50 years after the First Chimurenga (Struggle): in 1896-97, Shona and Ndebele warriors rose up against the British, only to be defeated and their spiritual leader hanged. Rural life and Shona society had continued despite the oppression under British rule, and herding goats and village life was Thomas' existence as a child. Traditional music and ceremonial gatherings were inherent to this life. At the age of ten, he went to live with his Uncle in Salisbury (Harare), where he was exposed to the modern music of the fifties and sixties, as British and American technology began the first wave of "globalization" in the music industry in Africa. Gravitating to the musicians life, and playing "copyright" music to survive as a musician, he also began to forge his own sound in the seventies, using Shona lyrics and traditional styles as the Second Chimurenga built momentum. This movement adopted his songs, and he the Movement. His early singles were a valuable tool of resistance, sung in a language the oppressor did not fully understand. Yet, many ideas were evident. The title of Thomas' first recorded album "HOKOYO! / THOMAS MAPFUMO & THE ACID BAND" (GRAMMA,ZIMBABWE,1976) meant "Watch Out!". The record was banned by the Smith government, the first in a long history of banning by both white and black regime. Smith, a few years later, arrested and detained Thomas in prison. Upon release in the United States in late 1984, "Relax" repeated its slow UK progress, reaching number 67 upon initial release, but eventually reaching number 10 in March 1985. The song won Best British Single at the 1985 Brit Awards. The song was used in the films Body Double, Police Academy, The Proposal, and Zoolander. The song was also featured in the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and a 2009 TV advert for Virgin Atlantic, marking 25 years since the ...

Nobody's Perfect (Original Song)

The song is on sale at mikeyacestudios.com for 58 cents. I choose 58 cents in honor of the number worn by Pitcher Armando Galarraga . This is a dedication song I wrote in honor of Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga and Umpire JIm Joyce. A few weeks ago, Pitcher Armando Galarraga was one out away from doing the most prestige thing in baseball and that is pitching a perfect game. Thats when the most controversial play ever happened. With 2 outs in the 9th the batter hit a ball to first base and the first baseball flipped the ball to Armando Galarraga for the out. The game should have been over and the perfect game should have happened. Except...umpire Jim Joyce called the runner safe. The hit counted and the perfect game was over. Armando Galarraga just smiled and did not argue admirably. The replays showed that the runner was really out and the perfect game should have happened. The Tigers went on to win the game. After the game Jim Joyce admirable admitted he made the wrong call. The following day Armando Gallaraga and Jim Joyce shook hands. This demonstrated the true meaning of sportsmanship. Since then, fans and baseball analysts have been lobbying to Commissioner Bud Selig to turn the call around and give Armando Galarraga his truly earned Perfect Game. As of right now, Bud Selig has been very stern with not turning the call around. I hope one day that he does. Please keep that hope alive by sending this song to everyone and not forgetting about this special game where 2 ...

John Brown's Song

Version by William Weston Patton: Old John Brown's body lies moldering in the grave, While weep the sons of bondage whom he ventured all to save; But tho he lost his life while struggling for the slave, His soul is marching on. John Brown was a hero, undaunted, true and brave, And Kansas knows his valor when he fought her rights to save; Now, tho the grass grows green above his grave, His soul is marching on. He captured Harper's Ferry, with his nineteen men so few, And frightened "Old Virginny" till she trembled thru and thru; They hung him for a traitor, they themselves the traitor crew, But his soul is marching on. John Brown was John the Baptist of the Christ we are to see, Christ who of the bondmen shall the Liberator be, And soon thruout the Sunny South the slaves shall all be free, For his soul is marching on. The conflict that he heralded he looks from heaven to view, On the army of the Union with its flag red, white and blue. And heaven shall ring with anthems o'er the deed they mean to do, For his soul is marching on. Ye soldiers of Freedom, then strike, while strike ye may, The death blow of oppression in a better time and way, For the dawn of old John Brown has brightened into day, And his soul is marching on John Brown (May 9, 1800 -- December 2, 1859) was a radical abolitionist from the United States, who advocated and practiced armed insurrection as a means to abolish slavery for good. He led the Pottawatomie Massacre in 1856 in Bleeding Kansas and made his ...

Today is Valentine's Day, so I decided to create this Top List really quickly. At first, I wanted to break it into two parts, but seeing the Top Lists of other people recently, I comprised all 10 songs in one part. And it's only over 20 minutes long ;) Took me about 2 hours, and I hope you guys will respect my opinion. EDIT: Whoa... so many responses. A proof that people have a lot of different opinions ^^" Honorable Mentions: It Is Finished - Mother 3 A Love Passed On - Valkyria Chronicles Eyes on Me - Final Fantasy VIII Outskirts of Time - Chrono Trigger Mario and Peach's Theme - Paper Mario Credits - The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks The World Adventure - Sonic Unleashed 15 Years Ago - Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War Love Theme - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots The Sun Rises ~Piano~ - Okami Intro music: Wishing Upon the Chaos Emeralds - Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 (talk about irony; using a music that plays during one of the most controversial scenes in gaming history ;p)

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (Special Edition) - Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever (1983) - HQ

!!!Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever!!! Recorded: "Pasadena Civic Auditorium" Pasadena, California (March 25, 1983) Broadcasted by: "NBC" (May 16, 1983) Produced & Sponsored by: Suzanne de Passe for "Motown Records" Record Label: Motown Records. Niceties by: www.youtube.com Synopsis! "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever" was a 1983 television special produced by Suzanne de Passe for Motown Records, to commemorate Motown's twenty-fifth year of existence. (Motown was founded in January 1959, meaning that a twenty-fifth anniversary special should have aired in 1984, not 1983. One could argue that Gordy's vision of what would become "Hitsville USA" was conceived in 1958, considering the month of Motown's founding.) The show was also co-written by de Passe along with Ruth Adkins Robinson who would go on to write shows with de Passe for the next 25 years, including the follow up label tributes—through "Motown 40," Buz Kohan was the head writer of the threesome. The program was taped before a live studio audience at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California on March 25, 1983, and broadcast on NBC on May 16. Among its highlights were Michael Jackson's iconic performance of "Billie Jean", a Temptations/Four Tops "battle of the bands", Marvin Gaye's inspired speech about black music history and his memorable performance of "What's Going On", a Jackson 5 reunion, and an abbreviated reunion of Diana Ross & the Supremes, who performed their final #1 hit, "Someday We'll ...

Whose Line: Show Stopping Number 2.5

Here's a reupload of Show Stopping Number I uploaded a few years back, previously the clip quality is so-so, so I figured I better upload it again in great quality. Here's one of my favorite playings of Show Stopping Number from a Season 5 episode featuring Chip Esten, the setting is at a Cheese Factory. Wayne gives us the most controversial question of the Whose Line Universe, without a hole where would ya be?
