This is my newly finished Matchlock musket. It is 6 feet long, weighs 26.5 pounds and fires a 25mm ball which weighs 3 ounces. I'll probably upload more video of it soon, I don't feel I captured very good video the first time we fired it but you'll get the idea. It's big, it kicks hard and it hits hard. There's more to come, I have several more muskets planned and in the works. The background music is "Merry Men" from the 2010 version of Robin Hood.

This is my Short Land Pattern Musket that I built from a Pedersoli kit in 2000. She is a .75 smoothbore. Nicknamed "Brown Bess", this was the official arm of the British army during the American Revolution. The American Army used mostly the older Long Land Pattern Muskets until french aid was given in the form of the .69 Charleville Musket.

This is the second musket I have found at this site in two years. Interestingly, both muskets had the barrels bent in precisely the same manner. The Lindsay's unusual design called for two full charges to be loaded, one load atop the other, and ignition of the charges came from twin side-by-side hammers that rested on two percussion cones. While Lindsay's brother was able to kill one of his two attackers with his single-shot musket, the second attacker was able to overcome the now defenseless man. Lindsay always felt that a two-shot firearm might have made the difference in his brother's final fight. The Lindsay was designed to always drop its right hammer first to fire the front, superposed charge. If both hammers were cocked, this double rifle musket was intended to initially only drop the right one. What soldiers in the field found out was that the Lindsay, like new recuits, sometimes would have difficulty in telling right from left.
