The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has said it has discontinued a lecture that taught counter-terrorism agents that mainstream Muslims were violent. The move comes after leaked documents revealed the controversial elements in the FBI's training manuals. According to the FBI documents: most American Muslims are likely to be sympathizers to "terrorist" groups like al-Qaeda. Spencer Ackerman, the journalist who broke this story for the website Wired dot com, told Al-Jazeera why the FBI teachings are "constitutionally dicey". "There is still a real ignorance and to some degree a real fear of Islam that has found a surprising home in the FBI," he said. "If they spend their time and resources going after indicators of violent behavior based on the amount of religiosity a person displays, then first of all they are not going to get actual terrorists, but innocent people."

Reality TV welcomes a brand new program in the United States which follows the lives of American Muslims and makes its debut on Sunday. Aptly titled "All-American Muslim", the show documents five families living in Dearborn, Michigan, which happens to be one of the largest Arab-American communities in the country. The network in charge of the show, TLC channel, which produced shows like "John and Kate plus 8", says the aim of the show is to give a realistic perspective of Muslim culture. Members of the cast include a woman and her Irish Catholic fiancée who plans to convert to Islam, an event planner, and a high school football coach. Nader and Nawal Aoude are expectant newlyweds. Despite their enthusiasm, Nawal shares concerns they have about taking part in the show. "Being American-Muslims there is a watchful eye on the Muslim community and just that word in general, that word Muslim. So we were kind of nervous about the exposure." She hopes the show addresses common questions and misconceptions about her religion. "We're not here to represent Islam, were not here to represent anybody but ourselves, "I get questions for example, 'What does every color scarf mean? 'Like you know, when I wear different colors. It is estimated that more than 1.5 million are already in the city, and thousands more are expected to arrive in the coming days. People have traveled from far and wide; some by plane, others by train, coaches or ferries. The price of going on the hajj can be costly, with many pilgrims saving for a lifetime and spending thousands of dollars to perform the pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam. For some people traveling from Britain, for example, the cost of a hajj travel and accommodation package can cost between 2500- to 6000 pounds sterling, the equivalent of $4000 - $9600. But even for those who don't need to travel so far, the price of hajj is still expensive. "The cost of hajj is around 4000 dollars, and 1000 dollars of expenses for the household, food and drink," said al-Hayan, a pilgrim from Morocco. Muslims from all corners of the globe celebrated the beginning of Eid al-Adha on Sunday, including Muslims in Russia and Central Asia. The holiday, which is also known as the festival of sacrifice, is referred to as Kurban Bairam in the region. Worshippers in the Russian capital of Moscow gathered at the mosque in the city's center to pray and listened to the chairman of Russia's mufti council read out speeches by the Russian president and prime minister on the occasion of Eid. According to Tartarstan resident Haji Lukmakhan Mokhzinzadi, Muslims in Moscow had more religious liberty than their European counterparts in, for example, Holland where they recently banned the burqa. "Moscow is a peaceful city, so I don't think that what's happening in Europe (such as bans on headscarves, burqas and street prayers) will happen in Moscow because the capital is developing at a stable pace. The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, is competent and professional and I don't think that such incidents will happen," said Mokhzinzadi, who has been living in the Russian capital for eight years. Muslims comprise a seventh of Russia's entire population and are the largest religious minority. It is estimated that 1.5 million Muslims reside in the capital. Muslims all over the world are gearing up to celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice, with family and friends on Sunday. In the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, families hit the shops to buy clothes for their children, while the local fairground was being readied to welcome the next few days of fun for families. While Sunnis celebrate Eid on Sunday, Shiite Iraqis will observe the holiday on Monday. Meanwhile, in the West Bank city of Ramallah, shoppers flocked to the markets to purchase sweet treats and nuts to offer to visiting friends and relatives, while residents of the Gaza Strip, browsed for potential sheep to slaughter, an important ritual during Eid al-Adha. The tradition of sacrificing an animal during this holiday commemorates the time when God ordered Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Ismael but changed the order at the last minute to a sheep instead. At the site of the original Occupy demonstration in New York, a group of Muslims held Friday prayers in a show of support for the anti-corporate movement. Muslims associated with the New York Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations and the local Islamic Leadership Council came to express their grievances and to speak of social justice. "We as Muslim New Yorkers are here today because we are in solidarity and support of Occupy Wall Street," said Linda Sarsour, director of the Arab-American Association.. Imam Aiyub Abdul Baki of the Islamic Leadership Council delivered a sermon on social justice based on the Last Sermon of the Prophet Muhammad. In a veiled reference to Wall Street bankers, the Imam mentioned the Prophet's commandment against usury. He also noted US constitutional protections of religious expression, alleging that Muslim-Americans do not fully enjoy that right. "We are also suffering; suffering racism and discrimination. Hundreds of people from the Sikh and Muslim communities in west London have formed vigilante groups to protect their homes, businesses and places of worship from gangs of marauding youths. The vigilantes stood guard in the streets of Southhall and said they were prepared to fight anyone who attacked them or their properties. Drost Kokoye - whose family came to America as Kurdish refugees escaping Saddam Hussein's Iraq - was just 10 years old at the time of the attacks on the World Trade Center. November 15, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A Transportation Security Administration officer at O'Hare Airport has been fired for posting anti-Muslim, racist statements on his Facebook page. In this Intelligence Report: TSA officials in Chicago tell the I-Team that veteran officer Roy Egan has been terminated. Officer Egan was a baggage screener at O'Hare almost since the beginning of TSA after 9/11. Now, Egan has resumed his rants on Facebook, the same venue that cost him his government job. Egan was stationed at O'Hare for nine years. On his Facebook page, he identified himself as an employee of the Homeland Security Department, and said, "I look for bad stuff going on airplanes." Under that heading, Egan wrote things such as: "Islam a cult that glorifies death...and a filthy religion" and that Muslims should be exterminated. When asked if he had made the posts in question, Egan told the I-Team, "It was common stuff I picked off the web and made comments on." I-TEAM: "What does it say that a TSA officer is saying these kinds of things about Muslims?" EGAN: "I don't refer to it in my job." Egan said even this post -- "Does anything at all make you smile more than a Muslim burning by his own hateful hand?" -- did not hinder his job as a baggage screener, despite frequent criticism of ethnic profiling at TSA. They will take certain subjects (ie halal meat, beard, etc..) very seriously and then completely ignore other subjects (ie how they treat their wife, riba, etc..).
