9'4'' Nat Young The elder statesman's choice When five times world champion Nat Young declares his respect for a particular longboard, you know it's going to be exceptional. Designed by his long time surfing mate Darrell "Rooster" Dell, this 9'4" is Nat's personal favourite -- and it's also the preferred longboard of many intermediate and experienced surfers who want a longboard that combines superb design, smooth wave entry and speed with exceptional manoeuvrability. Darrell's 9'4'' design is lightly concaved with conventional rocker through the nose, which then flows into a flattened area right below the rider in the paddling position to allow efficient paddling and smooth wave selection. From there it moves into a rolled V, pronounced under foot to provide easy and smooth rail to rail transitions. Managing to deftly combine the delicate combination of those two critical design factors ensures that the board is the ultimate in versatile surfing, with all the characteristics of regular construction with regard to weight and stiffness, and the sturdiness of E-Comp Technology. 9'4'' Nat Young Je surfe du "Nat Young" La 9'4'' est LA planche du quintuple champion du monde, sa favorite. For the third straight year, Nat Young has stamped his dominance on a Steamer Lane event. In 2007, Young took home the Pro Junior title. Last year, he demolished the Pro field and claimed the ONeill Cold Water Classic crown. An early exit from the Cold Water Classic had Nat refocused on the Pro Junior title once again. With a bombing swell and talented Pro Junior field, Young showed the world that he is the man to beat in Santa Cruz. Using his local knowledge, Young picked off a few bombs at Middle Peak and bested his competition in a convincing Oakley Pro Junior Win. The Pride of the Westside reigns

Last year, Buthman media released the epic SC shred-fest known as Get Rad!. The film was an instant success, chock- full of high octane ripping by legends of the likes of Pete Mel and Josh Mulcoy, as well as a glimpse into the future of Santa Cruz's next generation of wave wizards, fresh new faces like Nat Young and Austin Smith Ford. While the surfing in the film made it clear that SC surfers know how to "get rad", how exactly do they do it and how do their radical lifestyles influence their surfing? July 9th all these questions and more will be answered at the premiere of Get Rad 2!, and make no mistake, things have gotten radder! Get Rad 2! offers the viewer, an up close and personal look into a day in the lives of an ample assortment of A+ SC athletes as they hook up with Buthman trying to gather clips for their segments. From Nic Hdez finishing up his homework before a surf, to Nat Young getting ready for a blind date, Get Rad 2! , offers a candid, and at times hilarious look at surfing in Santa Cruz.

That world contest shook up California surfing, Doyle recalled. At the time we were all riding 10-foot surfboards with trash-can noses, and we were still into an old-fashioned style of surfing there you stomp on the tail to kick the nose up, let the wave build-up go in front of you, then you either run forward and crouch down inside the tube, or else you stand on the nose and arch back in a kind of pose. We had all these stock poses we did over and over el Spontaneo, Quasimodo, Nose Tweaking, Bell Ringing. They had originated back in the goofy Malibu days and had been a lot of fun over the years. But they had also stifled the creation The real agent of change that year was Nat Young, Mike Doyle wrote, who came over from Australia with an old, beat-up, nine-foot log that looked like hell. But it was shaped like one of the old pig boards a shape that had mostly been forgotten. of new styles. It was time to move on to other things.Years after the World Contest, Nuuhiwa recalled of a conversation about an over-emphasis on noseriding in contests, Nat and I got together and laughed about it. What a joke. But I figured, Hey, if thats what they want, thats how well play it out. I was disappointed, continued Nuuhiwa, talking about the fact he and Nat never got to duel it out, because I came down with the flu after a good first day. Nat Young emerged the winner. It was the first time most of us had seen anything like Nats style, Mike Doyle recalled, and it set him so far apart from ...

"Too Young," written by Sidney Lippman and Sylvia Dee in 1951 and recorded that same year by Nat King Cole on Capitol Records was a million-selling record and reached the #1 position on the Billboard magazine chart, staying there for 5 weeks. It was first included on the 10 inch Capitol LP,Unforgetable, released in 1953 and is currently available on the Unforgetable CD. It remains one of the favorite songs of my early childhood.
