National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum - Oklahoma City The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is a museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with more than 28000 Western and American Indian art works and artifacts. The facility also has the world's most extensive collection of American rodeo, photographs, barbed wire, saddlery, and early rodeo trophies. Museum collections focus on preserving and interpreting the heritage of the American West. It was established in 1955 as the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Museum, from an idea proposed by Chester A. Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach, Class of 1985, returned to his alma mater Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati on Nov. 4, 2011, to be honored as a "Hometown Hall of Famer™" by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate Insurance Company. Staubach's family, friends and former teammates including Jerry Momper and Roger Thesing were in attendance, as well as Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown, as the roots of Staubach's football legacy were honored during the special ceremony.

Kirk Douglas (born Issur Danielovitch Demsky in 1916 in Amsterdam, New York, to a Jewish family who immigrated from Gomel, now in Belarus) is an American actor and film producer known for his gravelly voice and his recurring roles as the kinds of characters Douglas himself once described as "sons of bitches". He is on the list of the greatest male American screen legends of all time. Kirk Douglas received three Academy Award nominations for his work in "Champion", "The Bad and the Beautiful" and "Lust for Life" (as Vincent Van Gogh). Douglas received a special Oscar in 1996 for "50 years as a moral and creative force in the motion picture community". For his contributions to the motion picture industry, Kirk Douglas has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1984, he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In October 2004, the avenue "Kirk Douglas Way" in Palm Springs, California, was named in his honor by the Palm Springs International Film Society and Film Festival. James Arness (1923 - 3 June 2011) - Gunsmoke (10 Sept 1955) - Matt Gets It (First Episode) 1 of 2 James Arness, the star of the epic television western drama "Gunsmoke" died today, 3 June 2011, at the age of 88. He was a television legend, pioneer, and icon. Gunsmoke ran for 20 seasons on American television, from 1955 to 1975, with 635 30-minute episodes. This is the very first episode of Gunsmoke and aired on 10 Sept 1955. It is split up into two separate videos. This first episode was introduced by another screen legend, the "Duke" himself, John Wayne. Gunsmoke is an American radio and television Western drama series created by director Norman MacDonnell and writer John Meston. The stories take place in and around Dodge City, Kansas, during the settlement of the American West. The radio version ran from 1952 to 1961, and John Dunning writes that among radio drama enthusiasts "Gunsmoke is routinely placed among the best shows of any kind and any time." The television version ran for 20 seasons from 1955 to 1975, and was the United States' longest-running prime time, live-action drama with 635 episodes. In 2010 Law & Order tied this record of 20 seasons (but only 456 episodes).
