Boulder World Cup 2011 report - Munich
The IFSC Bouldering World Cup closed last Saturday with the event in Munich, Germany. The competition awarded the World Cup titles to the Austrians Anna Stöhr -- winner of the World Championship in Arco -- and to Kilian Fischhuber, although neither of them stepped up for the first place in Munich. In the women's field, the Slovenian Mina Markovic gains the gold medal with 3 tops 3 out of 4; the home athlete Juliane Wurm, galvanized by her public, sends one boulder more than Anna Stöhr and thus gets the silver medal, with Stohr in third place. The Russian Dmitry Sharafutdinov, World Champion in Arco, shows again his great shape with four boulders climbed on first attempt; but most impressive is the fact that only Russian athletes are on the podium at the last bouldering competition of the year: Rustam Gelmanov is second, and Alexey Rubtsov is third.

Excellent route setting for the boys and girls, flawless organization and super psyched and funny hosts Joost Hofman and Steven van Lummel made Eindhoven 2010 the emotional highlight of the boulder season so far. The world cup indeed is going to be a exciting affair - you never know whats going to happen when a climber steps onto the podium! While Alex Johnson, Chloé Graftiaux, Jain Kim and many of the previously strong boys got stuck in the semi finals (or earlier!), Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr apparently have identical looking twins that help them out when they can't do a problem. Honestly, their ability to not get too depressed by even the most disapointing falls and start the next problem with a positive attitude is in a class of its own! Kilian's third place secures him the lead in the overall ranking, a position that Anna also holds after her victory in Eindhoven. Everyone who witnessed all the events so far realizes how much harder it is to win the overall world cup than any single event!

One of their least expensive large diaphragms, the TLM 103 has a cardioid pattern that minimizes rear sound. It also supresses high feedback in live situations or where you might expect some loudspeaker playback. Microphone Shoot-Out!: Neumann TLM 103 vs AKG C414 XLii (Gibson "Northern Jumbo" Custom Shop)
Microphone Shoot-Out! Between the Neumann TLM 103 ($1400) and the AKG C414XLii ($1050). Both Mics are condensers. For my budget both of these mics are High End (My apologies if you have a higher budget and consider these mid-range lol). This was the first Acoustic Microphone Shoot-Out! that I've done and plan to do more in the coming months. This video is made for anyone who is interested in purchasing one of these mics. There aren't a lot of samples for these mics online... hopefully others will make more videos. The Audio samples are very simple: Sound Hole and the 12th to 15th Fret. I could have done over the shoulder, fingers around the neck, or more towards the body... I felt that these two samples are cover enough for the acoustic. The guitar being used is a Gibson "Northern Jumbo" Limited Edition Custom Shop, only 65 were made. Everything is going through a Tascam US 1641 USB Audio Interface into an iMac 24" using logic Studio 9. The video was edited in Final Cut Studio... my apologies for the corny effects lol.

Paul Neumann knockdown drywall texture on wall with plastic bag. Easy!
Mix 2 cups water with one box drywall mud. Apply with a wadded up plastic bag. After 5 or 10 minutes, knock it down with a trowel. Don't let the edge of your trowel make lines. You can also use this texture on a ceiling without knocking it down. Try it in a closet to practice. Make an application tool with cardboard and an old shopping bag. I glued the bag to the cardboard with contact cement. This type of finish is easy to apply. Easy to patch. And it has a nice hand-worked texture. You can't get this finish with a machine. You will need 1 or 2 boxes to do a bedroom. I knocked this down when it was juicy wet. It's more forgiving if it sets up a little.
