Titanic 1912 Newsreel (original)

Here is one of the original theatre newsreels that was shown to the eager public following the Titanic disaster. Although this footage is labelled up and presented to show the Titanic, the footage vessel shown is Titanic's older sister Olympic and filmed in New York during the summer of 1911. Captain Edward John Smith is seen wearing the White Star Lines summer uniform. We see views of life onboard the vessel prior to and departing from the New York return voyage. Captain Smith is seen on the bridge and Starboard bridge wings, watching the activity on the dockside and forward well-deck below him. We see passengers walking the A-Deck promanade and aft decks of Boat Deck, A Deck and B Deck. We also see views across the Poop Deck that show some of the ships telegraphs and phones on the stern docking bridge. We also get a chance to view the Boat Deck with lifeboats in position, looking from aft towards the bow. The footage then cuts to scenes of the rescue ship Carpathia, onboard the liner as crew of the small Cunarder play around for the camera man. Her Captain, Auther Rostron is seen along with young members of the crew passing information to dockside press. In all, this is a sad but historic reminder of not only the early reactions to the Titanic disaster, but also a reminder to the early days of cinamaphotography.

Universal Newsreels: Jean Tinguely (1960)

ED HERLIHY VO: Meet Jean Tinguely , who may be an artist or an inventor or a philosopher, depending on how you look at his masterpieces. They are sort of abstract industrialism. Weird and wonderful machines that work superbly but sort of absolutely no useful purpose. Their only function is to have no function. Jean Tinguely (22 May 1925 30 August 1991) was a Swiss painter and sculptor. He is best known for his sculptural machines or kinetic art, in the Dada tradition; known officially as metamechanics. Tinguely's art satirized the mindless overproduction of material goods in advanced industrial society. He belonged to the Parisian avant garde in the mid-twentieth century and was one of the artists who signed the New Realist's manifesto (Nouveau réalisme) in 1960. Distributed by Tubemogul.

Universal Newsreel Featuring WWII Allied Convoy Battle

British newsreel footage about Allied ships battling Axis planes. Lots of big guns and explosions in this. Also, other stories about British royalty touring Scotland, inspecting a fire brigade and a daycare center. A British slice of life from World War II. In the pre-TV era, people saw the news every week in their neighborhood movie theaters. Newsreels were shown before every feature film and in dedicated newsreel theaters located in large cities. Universal Newsreel, produced from 1929 to 1967, was released twice a week. Each issue contained six or seven short stories, usually one to two minutes in length, covering world events, politics, sports, fashion, and whatever else might entertain the movie audience. These newsreels offer a fascinating and unique view of an era when motion pictures defined our culture and were a primary source of visual news reporting. Universal City Studios gifted Universal Newsreel to the American people, put the newsreels into the public domain, and gave film materials to the National Archives in 1976. Surviving materials from the entire collection are available at the National Archives and Records Administration in College Park, Maryland. You can see more of these and WWI videos at USSMtMcKinley.Com....

The Doolittle Raid, on 18 April 1942, was the first air raid by the United States to strike the Japanese Home Islands (Honshu) during World War II. By demonstrating that Japan itself was vulnerable to American air attack, it provided a vital morale boost and opportunity for US retaliation after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. The raid was planned and led by Lieutenant Colonel James "Jimmy" Doolittle. Doolittle would later recount in his autobiography that the raid was intended to bolster American morale and to cause the Japanese to begin doubting their leadership:

The rebel coup was supported by the conservative groups including the Spanish Confederation of the Autonomous Right (Confederación Española de Derechas Autónomas, or CEDA), monarchists known as Carlist groups, and the Fascist Falange (Falange Española de las JONS).[

Journal TV - Almanac Newsreels - Nazi bund exposed, Germans trapped at Stalingrad

The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in southwestern Russia. The battle took place between 17 July 1942 and 2 February 1943 and was among the largest on the Eastern Front, and was marked by its brutality and disregard for military and civilian casualties. It was amongst the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare with the higher estimates of combined casualties amounting to nearly two million deaths. The outcome was disastrous for Germany, and proved to be a turning point in the war for the Allies, making a German victory in the East impossible. A collection of over 200 historical newsreels. Each newsreel runs approximately 3 minutes and covers the most important events of the first half of the 20th century.
