From Nils' latest album "Up Close and Personal" released on March, 17, 2009. Nils was born and raised in Munich, Germany. He picked up his first guitar as teenager. While his first inclinations were to follow the lead of his idols Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, it wasn't until he was introduced to funk music that he was hooked. He spent "endless nights" learning and copying rhythm players like Nile Rogers, Al McKay and Paul Jackson, Jr. Over the years he has deserved a great reputation among Smooth Jazz fans for producing albums of the highest quality. This is his third solo album, after the critical and popular acclaimed "Pacific Coast Highway" and "Ready to Play". "Up Close and Personal" showcases his signature musical style that was created years ago and still sounds as fresh and new today as it did when he started.

It's a six-camera shoot from a gig at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia (February 2006). As a singer/guitarist, Lofgren is best known for his work with Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, yet he has produced a substantial body of work as a solo artist. Here he and his band perform eighteen brilliant songs for the many fans in attendance. Bonus features include six additional songs and two extra featurettes: interview footage and rehearsals.

"... but what surprises me most is how many I run into, or hear from, who say they loved the Nils or were directly influenced by them. The Goo Goo Dolls, Superchunk, Jawbox, Meat Puppets, Down By Law, Bob Mould and many of the power-pop punk bands(too many to name), all rave about the Nils.

Biography From His Facebook Site: Nils Frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. During his childhood he was taught to play piano by Nahum Brodski -- a student of the last scholar of Tschaikowski. It was through this that Nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. Today Nils Frahm works as an accomplished composer and producer in Berlin. In 2008 he founded Durton Studio, where he has worked with Deaf Center from Norway, LA composer Dustin O' Halloran and Portland's Peter Broderick amongst other fellow musicians. In late 2008 label comrade Peter Broderick encouraged Nils to record a new album of piano improvisations -- the result is 'The Bells', which was released on Erased Tapes worldwide in late 2009. Perhaps the most stunning aspect of what on the surface appears to be an entirely pre-planned and composed body of work comes with the discovery that these pieces were in fact improvised. These two friends share a common affinity in that they both possess an absolute mastery of melody, composition and performance -- able to deliver with devastating effect. The modest Mr. Broderick states 'I remember thinking to myself as I lay there stunned, that I could spend ten years trying to write an amazing piece of piano music, and still it would never be half as good as these improvisations!' Nils Lofgren - Keith Don't Go (From "Cry Tough" DVD)
Nils Lofgren's career has seen him achieve great success as a solo artist whilst also establishing himself as a guitarist for both Neil Young in Crazy Horse and Bruce Springsteen in the E Street Band. These three live performances from Germany were all filmed for the famous Rockpalast TV series and see Lofgren at differing points in his career. In 1976 he had released his debut solo album to considerable critical acclaim and was beginning to lay the foundations of his reputation. By 1979 he was well established as a solo artist and influential guitar player. For the third show in 1991, Lofgren had already done a substantial stint in the E Street Band and had just begun to return as a solo performer with his album "Silver Lining". All three are great performances and catch the excitement and showmanship of one of America's finest guitar players live in concert.
