Another time-lapse video of a prop project. I hope you can follow it. (I had to jump-cut here and there since it's nearly impossible to squeeze 20 hours worth of video into under ten minutes and still have it come out looking coherent.) My design for the sword is based on a variety of official and fan-made reference pictures. Since no two pictures of the sword seemed to be alike, I had to muddle through as best I could. I printed out my pattern to what I felt were the best length and proportions. I used foamcore board, posterboard and PVC pipe for the core. I coated the outside with .020" styrene plastic. I also vacuum-formed part of the section at the top of the sword using a home-made machine. (You can build one yourself using the same instructions I did. // DESCRIPTION The sword is targeted to be a prop as a part of a cosplay of Final Fantasy 13 Versus main character Noctis Lucis Caelium. The video features a slideshow of the process of making it. Hopefully being a help to other cosplayers and prop makers out there! The goal was to make a light but durable 1:1 scale sword as accurate as possible based on references available and the limited materials and equipment I could find. Where no references were available, I improvised to give it a touch of my own design and solution. Cardboard plates became my natural base material to work with because its easy to work with compared to wood and plastic. A good pair of scissors, knife and loads of glue is basically whats needed. Oh..and bandaid. Lots of bandaid for my poor thumbs. When it comes to painting on cardboards, its essential to coat before you paint. A couple of layers of coating and fine sandpaper smoothing will help you get rid of the rough paper surface. Repeat till you are happy. It can hide the feeling and look of cardboard completely and make it more realistic. In additional to that, it covers over small cracks and uneven spots and joints. As second layer, I used liquid silver paint to make it as chromatic as possible. Then a third layer of acrylic black with a dry brush to add a "worn" metal look. This is optional, but I highly recommend it for a realistic effect. When I was happy with the shading, I applied a fourth thin layer of lacquer on top of everything to <b>...</b>
