The hopper dredger Barent Zanen is one of the 120 vessels which worked in the Pomeranian Bay for the Nord Stream project from May 2010 to the end of 2010. The Barent Zanen created a 27-kilometre trench into which the twin pipelines were laid. Many high-ranking guests attended the ceremony in Lubmin at the Baltic Sea, including the French and the Dutch prime ministers as well as former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who sealed the deal six years ago. Construction work on the Nord Stream gas pipeline is running to schedule. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced this good news during his visit to the "Solitaire" pipe-laying ship, whose international crew is laying pipes on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The Nord Stream will be a direct link between Russia and Germany bypassing transit countries. The first leg is due to be completed in 2011, and the second leg in 2012. Konsorcjum Nord Stream przedstawiło w środę w Visby na Gotlandii pierwszy zbiorczy raport oddziaływania Gazociągu Północnego na środowisko. Twierdzi w nim, powołując się na badania, że inwestycja na dnie Bałtyku nie zagraża środowisku. "Spełniliśmy wymogi określone w pozwoleniu na budowę wydanym przez szwedzkie władze, a dotychczasowe prace nie miały negatywnego wpływu na środowisko Bałtyku" - twierdzi Lars O. Groenstedt z kierownictwa Nord Stream. Poinformował, że trzy części pierwszej nitki gazociągu zostały połączone pod wodą w czerwcu, obecnie trwa budowa drugiej nitki.
