FSX 太空穿梭機香港至太空Space shuttle STS Atlantis OV-104

Space Shuttle Atlantis 1985-2011 Tribute. HD

Atlantis (OV-104) was delivered to Kennedy Space Center in April 1985. It lifted off on its maiden voyage on Oct. 3, 1985, on mission 51-J, the second dedicated Department of Defense flight. Later missions included the launch of the Galileo interplanetary probe to Jupiter on STS-34 in October 1989, and STS-37, with the Gamma Ray Observatory (GRO) as its primary payload, in April 1991. STS-135 on 28 June 2011: This is the final mission of Space Shuttle Atlantis and the last mission for the Space Shuttle Program. STS-135 will fly with a crew of 4 astronauts; the reduced crew size allows for rescue by regularly scheduled Soyuz missions if necessary. Atlantis is named after a two-masted sailing ship that was operated for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute from 1930 to 1966. The story of the Hubble Space Telescope and where we go ...

On August 11th, 2008 the Hubble Telescope hit the 100000 orbit mark! Since its launch in April of 1990 the Hubble Space Telescope has been traveling at 5 miles per second with its on-board odometer racking up around 2.72 BILLION miles! That's about 5700 trips to the moon and back! In October of this year the STS-125 crew will be be working on the 5th and final servicing mission to Hubble. There are currently 5 spacewalks scheduled for Atlantis where astronauts will install new equipment and repair broken instruments. Once this mission is complete, NASA's favorite telescope will need to live out the remainder of its days alone in space, with no chance of repair. This is the story of the Hubble Space Telescope, or HST.

Endeavour Rollover to VAB - STS-127

Space Shuttle Endeavour was moved April 10, from Orbiter Processing Facility Bay 2 to the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASAs Kennedy Space Center, Florida, for its upcoming STS-127 mission to the International Space Station. Endeavour also will stand by at Kennedy's Launch Pad 39B in the unlikely event that a rescue mission is necessary during space shuttle Atlantis' upcoming STS-125 mission to upgrade NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Atlantis is scheduled to lift off with its crew on May 12th. The move from Endeavours hangar is referred to as a "rollover." Following rollover, technicians in the Vehicle Assembly Building attach the lifting sling to Endeavour for rotation and hoisting. The shuttle then is mated to its external fuel tank and twin solid rocket boosters.

Manufacturing Execution System MES implementations at NASA Constellation Program suppliers

United Space Alliance is improving processes and exercising procedures on the current space shuttle program that will be leveraged in NASAs new Constellation program. NASA is implementing new philosophies on Constellation based on lessons learned from prior space programs and is raising the bar for all partners and suppliers on the next generation of space exploration vehicles. The 3min video clip on this page courtesy of KSCTV/NASA, features NASAs Associate Administrator for Space Operations, Bill Gerstenmaier, addressing the press among a panel of senior space agency officials following the successful launch of space shuttle Endeavour (STS-118) on August 8, 2007. Mr. Gerstenmaier speaks about the transition from the Space Shuttle to the new Constellation program, how his team is gearing up with new systems, and how they will be applying experiences from current challenges to the new program. Q: Dave Mosher, Space.com: I would like to know, what sort of feeling is among the employees of the shuttle fleet, contractors and NASA employees, what is going through their minds in regards to possibly loosing their jobs or being repurposed in the agency? A: Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA: Our general perception is that this is one of the most exciting times we have ever had in the history of NASA. You may not realize what we are doing in these flights, but these are some of the most challenging engineering things we have ever attempted in space. Dragon Success and Atlantis Engines - SpacePod 2010.12.13

The end is in sight for the Space Shuttle while the future of SpaceX is looking bright. I'm Benjamin Higginbotham and this is your SpacePod for December 13th, 2010. The big news this last week was that Space Exploration Technologies or SpaceX has become the first company in the world to have a spacecraft launch, orbit the Earth, re-enter our atmosphere and be safely recovered. Until now only 3 countries have been able to accomplish this: the US, Russia and China. Here's a quick review of the launch itself just in case you missed it And while watching a Falcon 9 lifoff from SLC-40 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, I think watching the Dragon module separate from the upper stage was even more exciting! This is just the beginning. The Dragon capsule still needs to have the photovoltaic cells, or solar panels added for energy generation and additional maneuvering/docking tests need to be completed before SpaceX will be able to start officially carrying out its cargo transportation contract with NASA under the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services or COTS contract. Just as SpaceX is starting to spin up production, NASA is winding down the Space Shuttle program. Last week the final 3 Space Shuttle Main Engines or SSMEs were installed in Atlantis for the Launch on Need Mission and potential final flight of the Space Shuttle Program: STS-135. Each engine is 14 feet long, weighs 6700 pounds and is 7.5 feet in diameter at the end of the nozzle. Now that things have ...

Tribute to the Space Shuttle Era

The orbiter resembles a conventional aircraft, with double-delta wings swept 81° at the inner leading edge and 45° at the outer leading edge. Its vertical stabilizer's leading edge is swept back at a 50° angle. The four elevons, mounted at the trailing edge of the wings, and the rudder/speed brake, attached at the trailing edge of the stabilizer, with the body flap, control the orbiter during descent and landing. The orbiter has a large payload bay measuring 15 by 60 feet (4.6 by 18 m) comprising most of the fuselage. Two mostly symmetrical lengthwise payload bay doors hinged on either side of the bay comprise its entire top. Payloads are generally loaded horizontally into the bay while the orbiter is oriented vertically on the launch pad and unloaded vertically in the near-weightless orbital environment by the orbiter's robotic remote manipulator arm (under astronaut control), EVA astronauts, or under the payloads' own power (as for satellites attached to a rocket "upper stage" for deployment.) Three Space Shuttle main engines (SSMEs) are mounted on the orbiter's aft fuselage in a triangular pattern. The engine nozzles can swivel 10.5 degrees up and down, and 8.5 degrees from side to side during ascent to change the direction of their thrust to steer the shuttle. The orbiter structure is made primarily from aluminum alloy, although the engine structure is made primarily from titanium alloy. The space-capable orbiters built were OV-102 Columbia, OV-099 Challenger, OV-103 ...
