This is the last time two space shuttles are scheduled to be on both launch pads at the same time. This even has not happened since 2001, and it is a rarity that is an amazing sight. After Space Shuttle Atlantis launches (No earlier than October 14th, 2008) Space Shuttle Endeavour will be moved from pad 39B to pad 39A allowing NASA to retire pad 39B and redesign it for use on Constellation. On August 11th, 2008 the Hubble Telescope hit the 100000 orbit mark! Since its launch in April of 1990 the Hubble Space Telescope has been traveling at 5 miles per second with its on-board odometer racking up around 2.72 BILLION miles! That's about 5700 trips to the moon and back! In October of this year the STS-125 crew will be be working on the 5th and final servicing mission to Hubble. There are currently 5 spacewalks scheduled for Atlantis where astronauts will install new equipment and repair broken instruments. Once this mission is complete, NASA's favorite telescope will need to live out the remainder of its days alone in space, with no chance of repair. This is the story of the Hubble Space Telescope, or HST.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-104) is one of the three operational Space Shuttle orbiters in the Space Shuttle fleet belonging to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Upon successful completion of her 32 and final mission (STS-132) in May, 2010. She is scheduled to be decomissioned. Space Shuttle Endeavour was moved April 10, from Orbiter Processing Facility Bay 2 to the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASAs Kennedy Space Center, Florida, for its upcoming STS-127 mission to the International Space Station. Endeavour also will stand by at Kennedy's Launch Pad 39B in the unlikely event that a rescue mission is necessary during space shuttle Atlantis' upcoming STS-125 mission to upgrade NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Atlantis is scheduled to lift off with its crew on May 12th. The move from Endeavours hangar is referred to as a "rollover." Following rollover, technicians in the Vehicle Assembly Building attach the lifting sling to Endeavour for rotation and hoisting. The shuttle then is mated to its external fuel tank and twin solid rocket boosters.
