A tiny contingent of student activists takes up a small patch of grass on the main lawn at Cal State University Northridge for "Occupy CSUN," standing in solidarity with the Occupy movement all over the US and across the world. The event is timed to coincide with "Occupy Colleges," which takes place on over 90 campuses around the United States. Marlon Stern, the main organizer of Occupy CSUN, claims that at its peak, there were 100 students at the encampment, though as the day wears on, the number dwindles to approximately a dozen. Unlike many other locations, the Occupy movement at this suburban campus of 33000 students and 9000 faculty and staff is unable to gain traction, and the encampment vanishes that same night.

Students, alumni, faculty, and their supporters (including civil rights pioneer Reverend James Lawson) rally at California State University Northridge, for a Day of Action on March 2, 2011. They gather to oppose the savage budget cuts Governor Jerry Brown has put forward in his new budget. He wants to slash $500 million from the CSU system alone! Students march on campus to express their outrage, and even occupy Reseda Boulevard! In this spotlight video, while the marchers sit down in the middle of Reseda Boulevard - echoing last year's event in which six students were arrested, and a professor was hospitalized - an impassioned student protest leader pushes his fellow students to be more committed, to take consistent action toward their goal of ending budget cuts, and he even suggests a general student strike. The entire protest is covered in the video below: www.youtube.com

Forgive the darkness in the video it's night, there are no lights with strong enough lumination. Occupiers from San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, Cal State University Northridge, and University of California Los Angeles converge in a Round Robin outside Van Nuys Police Station/Jail in support of people who have been arrested during the eviction at Los Angeles City Hall in the morning of 2011/11/30. Not only Occupiers were there in support. There were concerned parents, friends, bail bondsmen and those who worked with them planned on to try and release the arrestees.

We prepared this video for our creative project in Immunology class at California State University Northridge (CSUN). The idea was to think of an unusual or amusing way of presenting class concepts. At the time, the Occupy movement was in full swing and, if you looked at it from the government's eyes, we saw a lot of similarities between their protests and a pathogen invasion in the body. So, we visited the Los Angeles encampment outside City Hall and talked to some Occupiers....others approached us first. We in no way wanted to trivialize or poke fun at their cause but we did find it interesting that protesters' interaction with city leaders really resembled how pathogen and white blood cells respond to one another. - Deborah Meron & Anasheh Ghazarian

November 17, 2011 Cal State Dominguez Hills Faculty Strike/ Tuition Hike Strike Carson, CA *As I was filming to make a student film on the whole Occupy Movement, I asked an officer about his opinion on the demonstration. He said that the CSUDH Faculty strike was rather peaceful (this is as busloads of people were arriving), though he wasn't allowed to speak about his views on the strike. This is a CSUN alumni, helping fight to help tuition rates from rising.

Charles Bowden, award-winning journalist and author of "Murder City: Ciudad Juarez and the Global Economy's New Killing Fields," has a wide-ranging discussion on the intersection of numerous social factors - rising corporate power, the importance of government as a check against it, the decline of labor unions, the effects of illegal immigration, the catalyzing effect of Occupy Wall Street, and the media's abdication of its responsibility to the people. "There are no labor reporters anymore," he said of the press. "Everybody works, but nobody covers it. Did you ever ask yourself about that?"
