Occupy LA: The Pro-Government Protesters?

Los Angeles became the first city to officially endorse the Occupy movement when its city council unanimously passed a resolution affirming the group's right to camp out on lawns in front of city hall. The council members had glowing words for the movement. "These are things worthy of protest. And I thank you for speaking out and helping move the debate forward," said City Councilman Paul Koretz. Many of the protesters had similarly positive words for their local politicians, as well as local law enforcement. Reason.tv was on the scene to ask protesters about their general attitudes towards government power. Is Occupy Los Angeles (and Occupy Wall Street) simply a pro-government movement, or is there room for libertarian sentiment within it? The answer is... well, it's complicated. While we spoke to a few small government libertarians at the event, others eschewed anti-government rhetoric and said that criticism of the Federal Reserve is a libertarian "pet issue" distracting from the real matter at hand: economic justice. The Occupy movement remains politically diverse and difficult to pigeonhole, and many of its members seem proud to remain fiercely independent, saying they will not allow politicians or unions to co-opt their movement. Produced by Zach Weissmueller and Tim Cavanaugh. Shot by Paul Detrick and Tracy Oppenheimer. Edited by Weissmueller. About 5 minutes long. LAPD Stands Down on Occupy LA

For days, OccupyLA had been told to evacuate its camp outside Los Angeles City Hall by 12:01 am on Monday, November 28. Throughout Thanksgiving weekend, the deadline approached and tension increased. When the police-led evacuation didn't happen, the movement moved into the streets where they were met by members of the Los Angeles Police Department armed with batons, helmets, and other riot gear. Reason.tv spoke with Occupiers and fans of the movement from inside the encampment at City Hall and followed the police developments into the morning. There was no clearing of the Occupy camp this time, but Los Angeles authorities have said they are determined to clear the space sooner or later. About 3:30 minutes. Written, shot, and narrated by Paul Detrick. Occupy Los Angeles, Day #3 - March on Financial District

Day #3 of Occupy Los Angeles has come and gone. Here I sit hunched over my keyboard near 1a.m. in the morning with the biggest grin on my face. Why am I smiling? I'm smiling because I am alive to participate and be witness to this massive shift in global consciousness, I am smiling because I am inspired and optimistic. The mood today was absolutely electric! Being that it was a Monday everyone was guessing how much different it would be than the weekend. We're happy to report several hundred people have been holding the fort down while a few other several hundred leave for their day jobs and return to the occupation after the work day. People are committed to this occupation, this movement and it is a beautiful process to watch unfold. There is a sense that this occupation isn't going anywhere anytime soon and the energy is building! If you're in the Southern California area please come join us and let your voice be heard. We have gathered in peace for change and we would like you to come stand, sit, breath and love together. Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. -Brother Echo

Officer Points Gun At Peaceful Reporter - Occupy LA 11/30/2011

Sorry for the video issues from around 2:13 onwards. Video & Audio pick back up at 11:09 minutes. Our police state at its finest. Officers last name is Escamilla from the LAPD I believe. Here he is shown pointing a gun at a peaceful reporter. I'm not sure of the specific legalities of this but it sure isn't an example of what a public servant should be doing; point the gun foolishly or even participating in pro-police state idiocy.
