A Miami Police officer was arrested at gunpoint and charged with reckless driving after allegedly leading the Florida Highway Patrol on a seven-minute chase in his squad car at speeds that reached 120 mph on Florida's Turnpike in Broward County earlier this month.A highway patrol trooper pulled out her gun to arrest Fausto López, 35, after he reportedly ignored repeated warnings to stop. López could not be reached for comment. As of Saturday, he was still assigned to regular duty at the Miami Police Department, said Cmdr. Delrish Moss, "because at this point it's a traffic offense." Fausto Lopez, 35, was charged with reckless driving. According to the police report, Lopez was driving at a high rate of speed in a marked police car southbound on the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 62 at 6:28 am on Oct. 11 when a FHP trooper saw him crossing over several lanes. That FHP trooper followed him and tried pulling him over, but he first ignored her sirens, according to the report. A 15-year-old student at a special needs school got a lesson in police brutality. Marshawn Pitts, who attends the Academy for Learning in the south suburb of Dolton, was slammed into a locker and thrown to the ground by an unidentified police officer as he was taking Pitts to the principals office for an untucked shirt. A security camera installed in one of the schools halls caught the entire confrontation, which ended with a broken nose for Pitts, who lay motionless while the officer sat on him. The fight allegedly broke out after the officer asked the student to tuck his shirt in, a policy enforced in the school. The boys attorney, Ed Manzke, says the video will help Pitts cause. Were fortunate that it [the beating] was caught on videotape, he told the Chicago Tribune. There is nothing [the officer] can say that could justify [the beating]. The video shows the police officer and the student walking down a hall. After saying something to a woman standing there, Pitts is violently pushed against the lockers by the officer, who then proceeds to pin the student to the floor. As the fight starts, students in adjacent classrooms try to walk out of class, but are blocked by other teachers. HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- A city of Miami police officer was caught driving 120 mph. Off duty City of Miami Officer Fausto Lopez, 35, was charged with reckless driving. According to the police report, Lopez was driving at a high rate of speed in a marked police car southbound on the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 62 at 6:28 am on Oct. 11 when a FHP trooper saw him crossing over several lanes. That FHP trooper followed him and tried pulling him over, but he first ignored her sirens, according to the report. Dash cam video showed Lopez's car as the sirens and emergency lights of the trooper's car were activated. The police report said Lopez slowed down to 78 mph before speeding up again. Seven minutes and 12 miles after first seeing Lopez drive past, he pulled over. In the video, the trooper was seen drawing her gun before handcuffing Lopez. "I never saw you," Lopez told the FHP trooper. "How do you not see a car with blue lights in the dark," she asked him. Lopez told the trooper that he was on his way to an off-duty job at a school in Coconut Grove. "I had to get there by 7 am and didn't think I was going to make it," he said. Lopez also asked that the FHP trooper remove the handcuffs. "Honestly, the handcuffs are not necessary, ma'am. I'm very cooperative," he told her. "You know what you are to me? You are a criminal," she told him.
